The regular Fed from 2007 should have one, unless it was cut wrong. I have one from the early 2000s and the dimensional cut was standard on it back then.

I think vodka would actually be worse to use because it would evaporate a lot faster than water. When heating up the sweat, you really don't want things to happen too fast, so definitely use water.

I hated the flanging or lack there of on the Fed 4, so what I did was pick out one of my vintage hats and use various clips to hold the brim uniformly to the other one after wetting...

I'm pretty sure the guy in the beginning of Last Crusade is indeed Fedora aka Steve Delk in disguise who built a time a machine to give Indy an Adventurebilt. Thus, this is why Indy has an Adventurebilt in KotCS.

If the hat Fedora gave him is indeed the same hat, then we already know that Indy was not beyond making modifications to his hat, as the ribbon among other things were different then.

I had a Burlington hat that started off looking somewhat like this. With a good reblock, you could change this hat into something decent for the price. Also note that the center dent is pretty deep here, so it's probably a lot more tapered than it needs to be.

I think Vegeta's right. Your hat is not bashed correctly for a Raiders type hat. The center dent is way too deep and it's causing the sides to taper severely which shouldn't be happening.

Other than that, your brim is flipped down in the back, which is never the case with the Indy hats.

The Raiders hat is not a regular snap brim. Perhaps it was originally, but in the film it appears to have medium to no brim curl in the back. The Fed 4 tries to replicate this but doesn't have enough brim curl at the very edges.

But what if this guy has a larger or more long oval head than Ford. The way it looks, he's getting a lot more brim distortion than Ford. Not to mention he's got it pulled down way more, just check out the profile shots. Doing that to any hat would make it taper. He also doesn't have a center crease....

That gray appears to have too much front back taper, but mostly due to how he's wearing it. I don't think there's any reason to believe the Raiders hat was blocked on anything other than a fedora block. It just so happens that the bowler/derby has a relatively little dome and is non-tapered, thus making it ideal for achieving the Raiders look, but there are fedora blocks that fit that bill...

The liner has a fairly minimal purpose, and most of it tends to be for aesthetic purposes. In fact, there are fedoras that come with no liner at all. In the past, liners were tended to be sewed in, but most tend to be glued in now with what seems to be glued in with a glue gun type glue.

By how rounded the top looks front the front and profile, I think it's the case that center dent goes down too far in the front. With the center dent in place, it should be just over 4.5 inches. at the pinch. From the profile, there shouldn't be so much curve at the front of the hat.

Yeah, unless you're going to a very empty theatre or one that happens to have those vintage wire hat hangers under the seats, don't bother bringing a hat. The people behind you probably won't appreciate it if you keep your hat on. Same goes for class or any other similar situation.

Guessing by the pictures, I'm guessing you have a round oval head, which means a regular turn distance will not work with your head. I suggest just manipulating the brim by hand with either water or steam to make the brim come down more in front.

Mostly for more screen accuracy, but that's not the complete story either as Indy isn't the first to do so. As for improving the shape, that's sort of subjective. Some people like the lack of symmetry, others don't.

Cold water or steam's somewhat necessary with the Federation, because it's such a tough hat. Cold water's somewhat of a better option though, due to less chance or causing taper in the hat. You'll also be able to shape the brim way easier, because otherwise it's near impossible.

Yeah, the brim and the crown for that matter are just tough sons of... Instead of using steam, I've preferred to bash hats with cold water. Just spray, or dab water onto the brim and you should be able to work with it a bit better.

Crushable generally means you can roll it up too. This is because these sort of portable hats are made of wool, and it's near impossible to reshape them anyways. Another option are panama hats, as some come with a crease down the center that literally allows you to fold them in half.
