kepler fedora

Post by Rich Johnson »

I just got my new Kepler Fedora. (Adventure Supply).

Its revised from a new maker and supposed to be exact to the Raiders hat.
I look so killer with it on.

Just a plug for a good quality dealer from a happy customer.

What's Lee's current price for his fedora...including shipping? I can't remember what his previous price was...$175 or so, I think?

Lee is sitll using Beaver Brand but he has changed a bunch of stuff. felt included. It is a new, and improved, monster. From the photos I've seen, this is a great and beautiful looking hat.

I have NO doubt that you DO... and Lee's Hats are GREAT...
But...
A few photos sure would help to "clinch" my belief in what you're saying! (Besides, these Boards desperately NEED more photos of Keppler Hats!)
So, the ball's in your court...

I had to wait since February. But that was while he was changing everything and waiting for his proofs to be perfect. It was worth the wait.
Pics will come I promise.

WPG shirt
LL Bean Chinos
San Diego Leather Jacket Factory "Indy Jacket"
Kepler Fedora
Kepler bag
Kepler gunbelt and custom longer holster.

I love the jacket. I wear it alot, even when I dont need to. Even in regular clotes it looks cool. Especially when you drive an open jeep alot.
I always wear a hat, for 20 years now its been a black cowboy hat.
Now I will wear my fedora too. Its lighter than my stetson and doesnt make my head sweat as much, and its flexible compared to the riged stetson.

The center dent on your fed is smashed in WAY too much.......It's giving your fed a weird taper that is accented with that little pinch. Looks like a TOD fed.

The front of the center dent is to low and the back of the center dent is to high and wide. i think if you adjust these the hat would look a lot better.

You also need to tighten your gun belt and run it through the whip holder (which should be attached to your web belt; if you are going for the TOD, LC, or KOTCS version)

His email is ROTLA007@aol.com to order one right now since his web site got hacked.

Acording to Kepler the front is supposed to be 4 1/4 inches tall.
Yes, the rear pinch got flattened up, I made it more pointy now rather than like a flat spot.
The center dent is fine.

Kepler delivered mine to me in person. And bashed it for me there. I have had a few sit down chats with him. What a good fellow. He has held several of the orignal props in his hands and has the measurements and photos to prove it.

Yes, the front "Bash" is severe, it is a replica of Raiders specificly.
He can deffineatly tell you the individual differances between the hats from each movie.

As for my gun belt, well, I did need to tighten it up about two notches. It was hard without apistol in it and the whip hanging on the other side to get it to sag the right way on my hips. The whip holder is attached to the gun belt.

Rich, I know this might seem a little weird and off-topic but nobody's said it to you yet... and hey, acompliments a compliment!
:-k
Dude, you've got a great chin!
It's one of those strong "Kirk Douglas" - style chins. Y'know? The kind they "don't make anymore".
Good, solid jaw with this, kinda' boulder of a chin that the rest of the face is propped-up on.
:[
Yeah... okay, so that DID end up sounding a little weird...
but hey, nice chin, man!
:)
(Oh, and no matter what kinda nit-picky things some of us can find issue with... I LIKE your gear! Looks good and comfortable on you!)
All the Best,
Mitch

Whatever you like man......I'm tellin' you though that your fed is bashed NOTHING like a raiders. You're talking to a group of people here who know EVERY little trick and detail about these hats. I've got raiders reference pics you should use to do a complete rebash. See for yourself.

Yeah, I see that the bash is much more severe on the raiders hat than mine. After I repiched the rear of my fedora (after the pics) the curveture of the crown and bash heights are comprable to the pics.
I think it is a TOD looking hat.
Kepler was showing me the different looks on my hat as he bashed it, with a ruler no less. He did state that the Raiders hat had a lower front pinch than the others at 4 1/4 inches.

Ok so I took all your photos and pinched and bashed my hat more severely. It does look like your pics now, minus the shading fron dust and dirt.
One thing I gotta say in my defense, I bet that collage has at least 5 different prop hats in it. They all look so perfect because there are a million people fussing over Harrison's costume inbetween takes. Seing as these hats are soft and the bash changes every few times you take it off, or pull it down on your head it would be likely that the screen hats were fussed with repeatedly during filiming.
Its hard to keep a soft hat have the same perfect bash every time you take it off and put it on.

I think Vegeta's right. Your hat is not bashed correctly for a Raiders type hat. The center dent is way too deep and it's causing the sides to taper severely which shouldn't be happening.

Other than that, your brim is flipped down in the back, which is never the case with the Indy hats.

With some more work I was able to shallow out the center groove, which accentuated the front bash too. The rear pinch has some wrinkles in it from being in different positions unfortunealy, but its soft so hopefuly it will work out, maybe when it will take some rain to do it.

Thanks for help guys. I appreciate the "Constructive" criticisim. Lots of pictures helped too.

As for the rear coming down too far, it seems like its straight more or less, depending how I put it on and wear it.

Just keep in mind, its a soft hat, its going to move around and like I said, it will likely keep changing shape and Ille have to keep pinching and bashing it to keep it looking "Correct".

I wear a hat every day, so its going to form to my head and how I wear it no matter what I try to make it look like. Im just going to have to alternate my cowboy stetson and my fedora.

My whole family has seen me with the fedora and only my sister in law's boy friend noticed that it was a different hat than my black stetson.
The guy that works for me is the only other person to notice also.
I find it weird that since I wear a hat every day, a black one for, oh, about 20 some years now, I switch to a different brown one, and nobody notices. Either my ego is too big, or nobody really notices things much.

Any way, thanks for the help, I will try to get some pics up wen I can take them, I need help when its on my head ofcourse.

I know what you mean. I had 6 inches of 8 total inches of hair cut off and not one person noticed it. I guess sometimes people just don't think about it.
