Glued In Liner
Well, I got a Fed IV Deluxe aabout a month ago and I need some help. Love the hat but after having my son sit on my hat (accidently) the liner has come unglued from the hat in a few spots. Should I simply remove the liner (do they actually serve a purpose?) or reglue it? If regluing, what type of glue would one use? Any info would be most appreciated.

Just be aware that Akubra likes to use a hefty glue to keep its liners in, which is the one beef I've always had with them. Just work at it carefully, but don't panic when you see felt remnants stuck to the glue spots on the liner. Again, work at it with care. If/when you put the liner back in, there';s no need to glue it. All you need to do is tuck it behind the sweat and it should stay in place. If you do decide to glue it, get a little dab of Elmer's--you don't need a lot--and use that to keep it in place. Elmer's is a water-based glue, so if you decide to remove the liner later on, it won't ultimately harm your hat and can be removed with water later on, umlike the glue Akubra uses.

The liner is mainly intended to protect the felt from hair products and sweat, which was more of an issue back when men put all kinds of greasy gunk in their hair. I have two hats that the liners have been detatched. I pop them in and out depending on how warm it is. They stay in just fine without glue or stitches.
Liner or Not?
For those who cherish the sweat stains, I might ask: Do you really want that on and in the felt?
