First bit of advice, don't waste the vodka. Water should work fine.

Do a search for "Lampshade trick" (or something similar) and you should be able to come up with a few threads on the matter. My understanding is that you wet the inside of the sweatband and then rest it on top of a lampshade with the light on. The heat will cause the sweatband to shrink. The second bit of advice is to do it in small increments. Don't leave it on too long and allow it to settle before trying it on. Then you can decide if you need to repeat the process.

What he said: DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT WASTE THE VODKA!

Water and the good ol' lampshade trick should do it.

Have you tried putting a small piece of foam or tissue paper inside the sweatband?

I have a friend who sells cowboy hats, and he sells these fabric bands that you can stick on the outside of the sweatband. They tighten the fit and absorb sweat. If you want something like that and can't find it, let me know.

I come into this post and read some very interesting advice. My advice is this: Be careful not to drink too much vodka and put the lampshade on your head thinking it was your AB. The following morning will be VERY confusing.
I am by no means implying personal experience here. ;-) :whip:

The problem with that is that its not SA. You'd need some Belle of Lincoln whiskey for that. ;-)

I think vodka would actually be worse to use because it would evaporate a lot faster than water. When heating up the sweat, you really don't want things to happen too fast, so definitely use water.

My advise is coming from a disasterous episode with the lampshade trick. Don't do it! Either stuff the sweatband with paper towel to take up the slack, or wet the sweatband and put it on your dashboard for a day.

Talk to Steve

If you have an AB, you've made quite an investment in your head covering. Before you try any lampshade tricks, have you tried talking to Steve about adjusting it? We was very accommodating to me when my first AB's crown rested on my head and the brim was hitting my ears. It fits perfectly, now.

This sounds like a "Vodka Myth" from "Mythbusters"
