First bit of advice, don't waste the vodka. Water should work fine.
Do a search for "Lampshade trick" (or something similar) and you should be able to come up with a few threads on the matter. My understanding is that you wet the inside of the sweatband and then rest it on top of a lampshade with the light on. The heat will cause the sweatband to shrink. The second bit of advice is to do it in small increments. Don't leave it on too long and allow it to settle before trying it on. Then you can decide if you need to repeat the process.

Have you tried putting a small piece of foam or tissue paper inside the sweatband?
I have a friend who sells cowboy hats, and he sells these fabric bands that you can stick on the outside of the sweatband. They tighten the fit and absorb sweat. If you want something like that and can't find it, let me know.

Talk to Steve
If you have an AB, you've made quite an investment in your head covering. Before you try any lampshade tricks, have you tried talking to Steve about adjusting it? We was very accommodating to me when my first AB's crown rested on my head and the brim was hitting my ears. It fits perfectly, now.
