Fed from 2000 vs. Fed IV?

Post by hoose55 »

Crown measurements and dimension cut brim, and the ribbon. What are the major differences between the old Fed, roughly eight or more years ago and the Fed IV. Since I purchased my size 58 the price has gone from $53.00 to $130.00. I love the hat, but does anyone else have these two hats and some comparisons?
Thanks!

Actually, while there has been a price increase as well, the main reason for the price increase is the lower value of the U.S. dollar. In 2000, an Australian dollar was about half the value of a US dollar, now they're nearly equal.

Main differences are a more screen accurate ribbon, better color, more accurate 5.5" crown as opposed to 6", flatter open crown dome.

Thank you, Mr. Brody. And I kinda' figured the price hike was a de-valuing of the U.S. dollar. I knew I should have bought a house in Australia ten years ago.

Actually the crown height is 5 5/8th of an inch and it does vary slightly depending on the hat size. The height is adjusted to match the proportions of a larger or smaller hat. :)

What are the dimensions of the brim of the older federation? I know the current dimensions are 2.5 on the sides and 2.75 on the front and back, but I'm a bit curious on the older one.

I could be mistaken, however I recall it being the same size.

I await correction.

hoose55 and Jones Boy, please resize your avatars as per the site rules (no bigger than 100x100 pixels). Turns out the autoscript to resize oversized avatars is what was responsible for crashing the site. Thank you.

Will do Bink. I thought that there was an autoscript to compress them down.

Sorry, I just realised you said the autoscript crashed!

Hey hoose55, is that the mid-brown color?

Sorry about the avatar problems everyone. Kentucky Blues I belive it is the standard brown they were shipping at the time. I'm not sure of the crown height. But I certainly am tempted to buy a Fed IV. One hat every ten years isn't bad. . . right?
