Sometimes using a bit of steam on the brim will "reactivate" the stiffener already in the hat -- especially in hats that originally had a lot of stiffener applied during manufacture (like Akubras). Stiffener, like shellac, will break up with handling; steam will soften the existing stiffen...

Indy's jacket (of course we're talking hypotheticals here) could have been horsehide, especially if he purchased it between the wars. I've a Bean A-2 from the 80s. Nice goatskin, collar stand, single piece back, two-piece sleeves, a Scoville zipper, and Scoville snaps. Still in great shape. I've wondered who manufactured it, but I guess that info is lost in a govt warehouse. It's a good beater for hiking in the woods with the dog....

Very nice jacket.

The fit looks good to me. The back panel might look too large because, I assume, you haven't zipped up the jacket for that pic. Shoulders look good, and panel under arm looks trim.

I've had someone ask me if my hat was from Australia -- when I was wearing my Akubra Federation. The only time I've heard an "Indy hat comment" was when I was wearing an Akubra Cattleman. Go figure. At least I wasn't complemented on my "top hat." :wink:

I also bash my Federation (mid-brown for me) with a pinched telescope -- just like it that way. I've had the hat a few years in rain, sun, and snow. No taper. I guess these Akubras are just tough! You and Renderking already knew that.

1) Extra inch -- at least -- in arm hole so it doesn't ride up so high under arm.

It's an A-2. I think it's a Star Sportswear A-2. Eastman Leather makes a Star reproduction, but I can't comment on it as I haven't seen one in person.

If you plan on being tough on your jacket -- like a true adventurer -- :wink: I personally would go with the goatskin. I found my westie goat (not authentic) to be pretty supple, especially after Pecardizing and wear.


If you've a long torso, I'd consider the tall or long.

I had no problem ordering my Wested over the net. I never received an e-mail confirmation, but there was an order acknowledgment page that popped up after I sent my order.

The jacket arrived in about 4-5 weeks. I don't think you need to worry.
You'll love the jacket.
