Coming soon, my online hat shop
I am in the process of opening an online Indy fedora shop. I am having my block replicated in sizes 6 7/8 to 7 5/8. I will offer a pure beaver Indy fedora in either medium weight, or lightweight felt, along with a pure rabbit felted Indy fedora. Colors available are chocolate, pecan, and charcoal gray. Brown sweats, white liner. These hats will be handmade by me. The price on the pure beaver is 200.00. The pure rabbit will sell for 100.00. I have sourced everything that I need to make these hats and since I will be buying wholesale, I can offer the fans very high quality hats at a very reasonable price. And as accurate as they come. Many will be in for a pleasant surprise when they see the crest on the liner and the emblem on the sweat. You will have to wait, but most will love it. I know I would. In fact, I think once you guys see the liners, you will be asking for one to replace yours. Same with the sweatband. I am hoping to have everything in place by early Fall. Until then, if you want a hat in my size(7 1/4), or 7 3/8, I can make you one with a plain sweat and plain liner for 175 for the beaver and 75 for the rabbit. regards, Fedora

Wow! This is definitely news! I can't wait to upgrade from my Federation! I will have moved to Taiwan by then, but I'm sure the extra money I pay for shipping will be worth it for a brilliant lightweight beaver hat.
Are you going to use that oil treatment i read about a long time ago on your hats to make htem more water resistant?

I had to check the calender to make sure it wasn't April 1st! Wow.
Fedora, this is truly great news and allow me to take this opportunity to wish the best of luck and great success, which I know will be yours. I just hope you can keep up with the demand!
and custom bashed by Fedora himself, I can hardly believe it. Like Ripper, I was thinking of getting one of the German HJ-s, now I see that $200 would be much better spent elsewhere. The price on the pure beaver is 200.00.

You can put me down for one in 7-1/4, but I'll wait till you get all the materials. I recently just got a Keppler, but too actully own a Fedora made Fedora in a beaver lightweight felt for me. Done deal. Many will be in for a pleasant surprise when they see the crest on the liner and the emblem on the sweat.
Fedora I'm so happy to see you doing this, I didn't realize you'd given up your day job to take this on. I think you will see some fantastic buisness coming your way from everyone here on the COW.
Three quick questions:
#1) lightweight felt this would be good for a summer hat right. My Keppler is a 6XXXXXX felt is this considered light wait or medium ?
#2) Which bash will you be doing, is it the same one you did for my Stetson, if yes, man I can't wait.
#3) Do have an idea on how payments are to be made ?
Good luck, Croft

Wow, Fedora, I'm impressed, interested, and anxious to see what you're offering. I love the look of my PB custom, but the feel of my horrible-looking HJ Poet. Like most, I've been extremely impressed with the German HJ hat and was seriously considering ordering one. But now that you've dropped this bomb on us I think I'll wait until your site is up and running.
I'm a fan of the Raiders bash and really want a well-made and somewhat accurate-looking fedora. With your skill and knowledge I'm hoping you can deliver where many have come up short. Good luck and I hope to be doing business with you soon.

Hip, hip hooray!
Now the folks making "Indy IV" will know where to go to get their hats!
The master may have to take on some apprentices to help with the sudden influx of orders.
This is BIG, Fedora. You'll need lots of space to do your work, sinks to soak the hats, boxes to ship, etc., etc.
Did you tell your wife yet?

Holy smoke, my friend! Crash landin'! This is the best news since Peter found the old Raiders jacket!
Fedora, are you sure you're up for the transition from gearhead to vendor? You're opening youself up to a whole new world of headaches. Example: Can you go one size larger on the blocks? 7 3/4? Special order? What will the blocks be made of?
I am absolutely delighted. I'm giddy as a schoolboy. I'm... going to shut up now.

This is absolutely incredible... Really those are the only words I can use to describe it, absolutely incredible. A pure beaver hat for $200 is by far the most amazingly low-priced item I have ever heard of. Is this pure beaver belly Fedora? Speechless. And to think I'm going to finally be able to have a fedora shaped by one of the great artisans in the trade.... simply awesome. Funnily enough, I just ordered a new hat from Optimo this past weekend, and while I don't regret ordering it one bit, I do regret the timing a little.... and just a little. Well, time to tighten up the belt and dig $200 in nickels and dimes out of my sofa. Keep us posted Fedora, and make sure that whatever server the online store is on can take the gargantuan amount of hits your sure to get when you open! (I'd also get ready for about 60 hat orders)
Let's see if I can answer all the questions. If I miss one, pm me. The beaver is not sterling beaver, just pure beaver, but I can't tell the difference in feel or looks. On the 7 3/4, I can get these bodies if they have them in stock. For some reason, they only make this size, up the 7 7/8 on occasion. I would have no trouble getting the block size made. The felt comes in probably close to 2mm raw. You have to pounce to get the fine finish, and I can pounce it Optimo thin or a medium weight, like the Akubra, or Keppler. It is just what you want in thickness. I have yet to name the hat company, but must do so soon, for the web page and sweatbands. Sharpetoys suggested Adventurebilt Hats by Fedora. I think I may put that on the sweat, but I have been toying with other names for the company itself. Along with the little logo on the sweat. Henry Johnson Hatter?, Tanis Hat Company?, Fortune and Glory Hats? Any ideas? I don't want anything about the hat cartoonish, but at the same time I want it to have Indy type stuff on the inside without being too obvious, or getting Lucas Inc's attention. If anyone has ideas, please list them. Also, how far could I go and not get sued? I noticed Miller hats uses the name Indiana Miller on their non official hat. Lee uses the name Raiders on his website to sell hats. I am open to ideas, although the liners are already being made with the crest that may get me in hot water. Fedora

You would only get sued by Lucas Film Licensing if you infringed on their copyright.
Fedora hats in themselves are not copyright to LFL, just as GRAFLEX camera flashes are not (basis for the Luke lightsabers ). Hence you can't go wrong there.
As far as the badge/name inside, you would only fall foul if you used something which used a copyright to LFL title or name, etc; like 'Raiders of the Lost Ark Hat Company' or 'Indiana Jones Hat Company'. 'Indiana Hat Company' or 'Raiders Hat Co.' should be OK, because they vague enough...just. Or is the word Raiders registered to LFL?
The only other reason you would get sue, would be if LFL had a current license holder of the license to produce the offical LFL Indiana Jones Hat.
Even then it's not LFL that goes looking to sue people, it's usually the license holder, who having paid a mint for the license, only deservedly really wants to protect their business opportunity from unlicensed competition, that will moan to LFL who will in the first instance issue a Cease & Desist order. After that if someone keeps infringing the license, only then is it multi-million dollar lawsuit time
Hope this helps
Well going from my experience of <ahem> underground replica movie props, the situation is usually this...Also, how far could I go and not get sued?

Is Tanis a real place? (pardon my ignorance, I failed Geography rather spectacularly ) If so, your OK. If it is a fictional creation of LF, then steer clear!Tanis Hat Company
Hope this helps

If this is a democracy, (which it ain't,) then put my vote in for "Fortune and Glory" as well, Fedora.
And expect an order from me as well. I'm not exactly a Gearhead as such, and love my Fed Deluxe just fine, but $200 for an Optimo-thin pure beaver! WOW!
Best of luck, my friend. You'll do fine.

How about this
Ark Light Fedora? I pm'ed you on the reasons...but it has a nice name, and the logo could be the customer opening the box and the raised fedora will give off rays of light!!
And you can say " I can go anywhere with my Ark Light Fedora on !!"
ok I am not Madison Avenue.
