it seems that with a steel cable core it might be kinda stiff and would not grip the branch (or whatever) well. also it seems that it would be heavy and you would have to throw the whip hard

My 1st roo hide whip was an 8foot 12plait David Bould whip. His whips are well made but are very light. That whip served me well for many years until I sold it to my friend to buy a morgan. I still ask my friend to let me borrow it every now and again.........for old time sake  ........... 8) -...

If you got a heavy duty 4 or 6 plait cow hide whip (like WSP american whips) it could definetly support you. It might slip off the branch but it wouldn't break. I have a 6 plait american whip from WSP and the thing is a tank!!! check these out http://www.westernstageprops.com/miva/merchant.mv?Screen...

You have to put poppers on or it will ruin the fall on your joe strain. the pic of zohar with the whip mark on his face was probably made from the fall more than the popper. Poppers are a very important part of the whip!

sorry but I have to agree totally with edge. you have to be close to someone to use the whip as a club, but cracking it can keep them at a slight distance until you can think of an escape plan.

I've swung the whip aroung holding the opposite end and it moves so slow that anyone attacking could go up and grab the handle....bad idea! if you have a shorter whip 8' or less, and are a proficient whip cracker, cracking it would be a good idea. you just dish out a series of multiple cracks quickl...
