Oh, okay. I'll try to remember to measure the diameter of my point. I am still a bit confused regarding braiding nomenclature, but here is a photo of the point of my 12plait 6.5ft Joe Strain bullwhip:

Re: What's the size of your point?
This may seem like a silly request, but what is the average size of the point of your whips just before the fall hitch, and how many strands are there at that point; 4, 6, 8? Whipmakers please feel free to pipe in here... Cheers! I am not quite sure how to tell, but there appear to be eight strands...

What a whip!
I was feeling better today and took the whip out for a little cracking. It took me a while to remember everything Gery, Paul, and Lauren taught me. I couldn't get a simple cattleman going. My son was watching me fail again and again (due to my own bad form, of course) and he said, "Dad, I thoug...

JMObi nailed the length exactly, and Bernardo nailed the maker and timeframe. It is exactly 6.666 ft long from the very furthest tip of the handle to the end of the point. Joe finished this whip today and I should have it in my hands by Friday night. Would you believe he's sneaked an 11-in spring st...

Bullwhip Workshops at Annie Oakley Days this weekend
The schedule says there are Bullwhip "workshops" on "Basic Whip Artistry" on Thursday at 12:30pm, and Friday at 9am. The schedule also lists more "workshops" (but not by name) at 9am on Saturday and 10am on Sunday. There is a very slight chance that I could actually hav...

Re: To Stretch or Not to Stretch
Advice may vary from thread to thread. Where are you? Is there any real hat store around? I have a snuggy-fit fedora that I plan to take to a hatter in NYC -- they stretch them right out back. Sounds like you're a full size larger than your hat is. Before you try anything yourself I recommend a vis...

If a hat is too small, is there any way to make it fit?
I just bought a used fur hat on the Internet. I am not much of a hat wearer, but it is a tad too tiny for me. I have never really worn real hats before (except the one I left at Midwest whips), so... am I just stuck, or are there some time-honored proper ways to make it fit a little better? It almos...

I have only cracked a whip a few times in my life, but I should own a real whip within a couple of weeks (hopefully before Annie Oakley days).
