Keppler Bag Strap VS. Todd's Bag Strap w/ pics

Post by TheMechanic »

Here's my new Keppler "Raiders" bag strap & buckle along side my Todd's Deluxe.

After I get my Adventurebilt buckle I can do a side by side by side comparison for you.

What interests me is straps have got redder and redder over the years, and in many of the photos we have of the Raiders strap it is more a yellow brown.

Yeah, I'd love to get (or make) some straps in a true walnut brown. As you can see in these pics however, the Keppler strap is much more brown than the Todd's.

thanks for posting these.

yes the straps are a little to redish.the buckle is very good.

my strap form Magnoli has the perfect Raiders color IMO.this is in direct sunlight so you see the color pretty good.

come to think of it...I need more straps like these.I need them in 71''
I have 65'' it's a little to short for me..

And the Todd's strap won't change in color with the application of Pecard dressing (at least mine didn't, anyway).

No, the Todd's won't change color. I've Pecarded mine and it's the same. Probably because the Todd's strap is overdyed or something.

Hey there,

I am new to this forum, but have been reproducing leather gear from movies for more than 20 years as a hobby. I've recently started selling my Indy Bag Straps and whip holders online. I've tried to find the darkest brown strap leather I can to accurately match the screen versions. Not such an easy task.

I can make XXL straps up to 80" made to order. See my strap page for sizing info. For the leather I've chosen an 8/9 oz. heavy duty Latigo which is heavy duty, durable, and a good looking addition to both my original MK VIIs and my Magnoli bags (which are slightly more khaki than the original, but still the best reproduction of Indy's bag I've seen yet.) Strap/bag combos available.

I am selling my 72" straps for $30 w/ buckle (Raiders or LC versions). Compared this to Todd's, Magnoli's, and Keppler's (the big three in the strap game?). Most straps are 62"-65" and are too short for anyone over 5' 10" tall. So if you need a longer strap, email me!

Email me if you are interested in straps, belts, and whip holders which I make to order to your specs.

Here's some pics:

I am still searching for a more accurate buckle for both Raiders and the other films. I would rather find them than undertake the task of making them. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated as I am constantly striving to make the most screen accurate gear possible.

Thanks,

W.E.

I belive Magnoli's original raider's strap (the one Holt has) is the most SA. However he doesn't seem to be offering it anymore.

Hey Mechanic, thanks for the Raiders screen grab. The corners and thickness of the Keppler buckle sure match!

Yes they do and it's a suberb quality buckle too, not a cheap casting. I believe Lee's buckles are made in England.
