Re: The Temple Taper; the good vs. the bad

I think the temple hat gets a bad rap because of this scene.

If you see that effect on a brand new hat, then someone didn't put the ribbon on correct. Now the Indy ribbon is tricky thing as when it gets wet it expands a bit but when it dries it will tighten up. Tricky ribbon to work with.

I think you are making the same mistake most do about this cockpit Temple hat. If you remember Willie grabs the hatband fans indy when trying to wake him up. He grabs the hat and puts it on. He doesn't fix the hat at all. The hat isn't tapered. It's crunched up in the back and that's why the hat app...

Re: Seeking Advice on Fed IV Deluxe sizing

They may have factor in on how much their sweatbands shrink. Federations are good hats for what you pay. You can't expect high end quality out of it. Those sweatbands are going to shrink, sound advise to stuff it, wear it, factor in shrinking a lot, and hopefully it will work.

Re: Seeking Advice on Fed IV Deluxe sizing

When buy any hat custom or off the rack it is always best to give your exact measurements to that person or company. Let them size you to there hats. no company I have seen has a accurate hat size chart, so they aren't helpful. Also factory made hats sometimes aren't what they are labeled as.

Just an FYI, I'm currently booked up to December. It would be a good idea if you want a hat for x-mas or to give a gift for X-mas, now would be a good idea to order now. The other option you could do is to buy a gift certificate and let that special someone pick out their own hat.

I've posted this in the past, but will do so again as a suggestion to keep in mind next time you order......give them your exact head measurement and ask them to match a hat to that measurement, instead of just giving them a hat size. That way they have to pull out a tape measure and check a hat be...

I'm afraid if you trim the brim the crown might look to large for the brim. I would leave it the way it is. It's only off a tiny amount.

Felt fading

Since the topic was brought up. Felt will fade the first year or so depending on the amount of sun it gets. There are other factors as well. That is the main reason why Steve Delk aka Adventirebilt hats went with the slightly darker felt. He wanted his Indy hats to be screen accurate for the most of...

Make sure your center debt are at 4 1/2 in the front and 4 in the back. Once you get that set then start the side dents. Try tweaking as you go rather then putting in anything too sharp.

Re: AB Legacy Raiders - Penman Hats Pure Lightweight Rabbit

The felt is not really the limiting. Issue on being able to fold or roll a hat for travel. (Other than obviously western hats with 40 lbs of stiffener in them). The limitation is the sweatband. Akubras have a wire reed in the sweatband that will kink if you fold the hat. Penman, Adventurebilt and G...
