I've had this vintage 1971 beaver fur Boys Scouts of America campaign hat for two years. http://indygear.com/cow/viewtopic.php?f ... t=campaign" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The sweatband was in rough shape and this past May finally gave up. :(

Image

Image

What to do, what to do?

Well, fortunately my summer travels took me through Forth Worth, TX so there really was only one choice for making the repairs.

Image

The hat originally came without a liner so I asked for one to be installed.

Image

Could not be happier with the results.

Ready to serve for another 40+ years!

Well, considering they supplied campaign hats to the military during WW1 and 2, I bet they knew what they were doing. ;)

Fantastic job!

Ordered my fifth PB today. 100% beaver dress felt in Granite with a relaxed Raiders pinch. Black ribbon. Pics in a few months. I have a brown Indy, a Steel Grey Indy, a black Indy, and a bone Indy. Love that hat shop!

Checked in yesterday while in Ft. Worth. Hat should be ready in about a week. Looked great so far....wish I had taken pictures of it. Took some of the raw body in March and it looked really dark.....way too dark....but it has lightened way up after the blocking, sanding, and ironing. Color is right on.

Picked this up Saturday (ordered at Christmas...worth every second of the wait):

Image

Granite in 100% beaver (CS Train). Beautiful job by the guys at PB....they even dug up a red liner for me:

Image

I'm probably done ordering "Raiders" style.....unless Indy wears something new in #5:

Image

Image

All above are PBs...I have two more: one in black, one in bone.

Indeed it doesn't feel like a hat that is going to need to be babied, which is a good thing. I have Montecristis for that - this one is to wear a lot.

The PB guys have the blocking of these hats down to an art, the shape is exactly what I was looking for. I'm already thinking of colours for any other!

DiC, WC - thanks for the comments, guys. Although I've stopped by the store a few times (I can walk there in 15 mins or so) this is my first Peters Bros purchase.

As creased, 5 1/4 at the sides and about 4 1/2 in the front at the bottom of the center crease.

I recently checked on getting one of their 50/50 beaver/rabbit stiff Indy hats and was quoted $525.00 USD. You have to pay up front and then wait until they get 10 orders for them to place the felt order. Of course the wait time is unknown.

Decided to order one of their Indy Milan Summer hats for $150.00 USD but these only have a 3-week wait.

Ouch...things have gone up in the last 12 months. The 100% beaver in granite that I bought last year at this time (see a few posts up) was about $575.

I kinda got that idea back a couple months ago when they proudly posted a photo on their Facebook page of a whole wall of new Indy DP's....the same wall Joe Sr. used to post photos of outgoing PB Indy customs.

I deleted PB from my friends list that very day. :-s

Like you said, it is sad that they were one of the early vendors that worked with members of this community to develop an Indy hat offering and now are seemingly turning their backs.

Maybe with Indy V announced they figure interest will go up and they can cash in, but all they've done is price themselves out of the market.

Heck, their 100% beaver western hats are priced at $800 and those require larger felt bodies. :-s

So they more than doubled their price? That seems really odd. I wonder if whoever was on the phone at PB looked at something wrong and mistook at '4' for a '9' when quoting the price.

Might clear things up if someone who lives close pops in to verify the prices in person. I was making the inquiries about prices and ordered the Indy Milan hat through their FB page using the message option. Of course they send me a PayPal invoice to pay for the hat.

FB Conversation:

ME: Indy Stiff Beaver Blend - Would like to order one of these hats.
Size 58 cm or US 7 1/4
Style: Indy 4
Thanks,
Bill

PB: This can be taken care of no problem they run 525 now and since we have the color custom dyed we take the orders until i have about ten and then we will order the bodies because i have to order 36 pieces at a time.

ME: Just curious if you stock any Indy hats besides the DP?

PB: No sir all our indys are custom made

ME: What do the Indy 100% beaver go for?

PB: 975.00

True that, Jeff.

Joe Sr. and Nelda actually did all the original website work. After they passed away, they just can't seem to get a handle on this type work.

They tried to create a new site, but as many of us saw, it just sat dormant with 'watch this space' messages for over a year.

The old site was then reactivated and what you now see is the original work.
