Same here. Daily use for months now (office, travelling, in the field) - and as Luke pointed out: no issues besides the fading on the cables. Comfortable and durable.

Regarding the hat: That's an Akubra 'Territory' I modified a bit myself (cut down the really large brim a bit, changed the hat band, and played around a bit with the pinch).

Agreed. that does indeed look like a sailor's turtle neck to me. And you still get 'em at surplus stores from time to time. At least that's were I got mine from. One could also look for one of those R.A.F. sweaters. Rather similar (although - obviously - in a different colour).

I second that - wearing my Fedora during summer, too - from time to time even in the oriental sun when on excavation. Sure, you'll sweat but it gives your head and especially the eyes the shadow you would need.

I can second that (well, except the "fat arms" part ). I'm wearing shirts all the time (hardly ever been seen in a T-Shirt) and whether hiking, climbing or digging I, too did not have a problem with "unrolling" sleeves. Maybe it's indeed a question of technique?
