I picked up the rucksack Tundrarider posted in the Bazaar. Not only is the pack awesome and like new, he included one of his custom HJ patches. His work is so flawless the patch looks original to the pack.

That looks exceptionally nice mate and yes, I agree Tundrarider has done a terrific job as always..

I think I must look into acquiring a pack myself. :)

Thanks for sharing

Nice work. I'd dirty up that white lettering a bit to tone down the newness.

Some of that leather and stitching looks new, did you replace some parts? If so, very good job! :TOH:

I use my backpack every day to take lunch and various items to and from work on the bus. Fits my little cooler lunch bag perfectly with plenty of room for a book or anything else I might need that day.

Excelsior!

Nice to meet you.

I am a friend of yoshinori hatakeyama.

I also finished up the backpack as well as him.

Nice to meet you, everyone!!

Catmark is the most famous and the best prop master among Japanese INDY fans.
He made the name tag and longer leather straps for me .
I sewed them and dyed.
He is the first man to make longer straps in Japan and recently other friends made a model of his backpack and modified their backpacks with longer ones.
Image

Hi Travis ,
Thank you for your kind words and advice!I resized and reposted the pictures .
Hi Indiana Jeff,Thank you for your kind words . I want to have a new tag and it will be dirtied up naturally as time goes by.

Hi riothamus,
Thank you for your kind words .Original leather straps are shorter than ones in the movies.
I replaced original leather straps with longer ones. I sew it with a white thread. I think white thread is SA.
I go whip-cracking every Saturday and Sunday with this backpack.

Hi Michael ,
Thank you for your kind words . Most of my friends think that the dark color of the bottom should be SA.

Hi Jake,
I asked a Japanese ,who lives in german,to buy and send to japan. In German the price of bundeswehr rucksack is about 15~16euro.But shipping charge is very high.and most of the military-shops will not sell them to foreigners. The only way to get them is to buy at the e-bay(German).

Hi Catmark,
It is needless to say that your backpack is excellent and SA.The color of longer leather straps is same as a picture above.

Ok.....with these pics, I'm really starting to want one. I don't really care about it being so SA to have the HJ on it....but the new straps...yeah.

$120? Thats not too bad....

Hello. :TOH:
It is the photograph of my bag of the present.
In the same way as my friends, I rode a photograph, too.
A color changes by a condition of the photography. :-k
I am happy when I remodel it in various ways.
I am weak in English, and I'm sorry. :notworthy:
I think that CATMARK is the best prop maker of INDIANA JONES in Japan.

So we got a round of "interested parties" full it seems. I'll start going into the sources immediately and try to catch those five backpacks for. If any of you decided NOT to take one anymore, please let me know since I would have to pay these babys out of my own pocket and I'd hate to be stuck with a load of backpacks again. Thanks!

"Just as is" - with the old leather streaps - the same backpack you would have get if you served in the German Army in the 70s and 80s.

Does anyone know where I can get a pair of the new straps, as shown in Yoshinori's pictures?
They looked very SA....plus the ones on my bag aren't very comfortable if there's alot of weight in the bag.....not sure if these would be any better tho? But...at least they look better!

Hmmm :-k ... Me thinks I may need to do a little digging around at our local surplus store. Seems to me that I recall seeing one of these type of packs rolling around the dark corners of the store recently. Looks like a quick weekend trip is in order.

Cheers!

About a month ago I managed to find an original German Military alpine Rucksack for sale in the USA on e-bay. Unfortunatly the seller knew they are harder to find than rocking horse poo so I had to pay $200 for it.
I then had the bag sent straight to Michael for him to add his quality HJ label to it.
When he had finished his work, Michael posted the complete bag back to me in the UK.
I received the bag today and I am very pleased with it \:D/
Michaels HJ label really finishes the bag off, thanks mate, great work 8)

Wow! Those are something else.

I don't think they're the same pack. I think those are actually older. From the little research I did, these were issued to the mountain patrol. The straps on the side are for an ice ax.

Hmmm.... decisions decisions :-k

Got it today, very quick shipping! It's quite sturdy, the connection points are all very robust. The canvas is almost an exact match for my original Mk7. The leather was in good shape but begging for some Pecards, which I obliged. It brought back the nice brown color.

Now all I need is to get it monogrammed. :D

Hi guys, I found good source of those rucksacks here in Poland.
Look here:
http://rangershop.pl/product-pol-115265 ... -oliv.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://rangershop.pl/product-pol-2794-N ... -oliv.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I think they are worth the price, especially when I saw that some of you paid nearly 200 bucks for such a rucksack.
With shipping to Poland the cost is: 1st one - 60.4 USD, 2nd one - 30.9 USD. If anyone would like to buy the backpack from them, I could help you, shipping to States is 29 USD, so it's still cheap.
What do you think?
Cheers
Tomek

Edit: I just saw that the cheaper one hasn't got leather straps, so the first one is more SA. However you can order the second one and change it yourself.

I wish I could tell good news. But truth is, I had to let it slide a bit due to work. Thing is that these backpacks become more and more rare it seems. At least the goods ones. I bought a number of these online not too long ago, but had to send them bag. All of them. They were in a condition you would not like to use. That said, I still did not give up. I'm in contact with army surplus stores now again. Hope to come back with better news - or news at all - before autumn's excavation season will start.

Sorry for all that trouble.

They look like the backpacks that have become popular on COW, but it's hard to tell from the pic on the website. But for the price, I'll probably be contacting you for an order soon.

They are reproductions made by Mil-Tec. That shop also sells very similiar backpacks from surplus but they have web straps, not leather like in the movie.
I don't like buying surplus stuff, because you never know what you will get. I ordered a satchel few years ago and it came with some white-out inscriptions and it stinked like a ****, I needed to wash it few times.

I'm actually a Mil-Tec dealer through my reenactment reproductions shop.
If there are interest, I could get a bunch of these backpacks and sell to COW members at an attractive price. Say 25€ a piece.
Let me know if there are interest :)

If they weigh less than 2kg, which I guess they do, shipping is 37$ to the US and 24$ to the EU.

I'll check with my colleague, if it's possible to have him replicate the HJ leather tag. He's very good at working with leather. And It could be fun to offer a 'complete' pack (including distressing if needed ;) )
