I know Marc has been busy with a few personal situations recently. Have you sent him an e-mail?

Yes, about two or three days ago, I can't really remember.
The thing is, I ordered a deluxe fedora about a year and a half ago but I haven't heard anything since, and I wanted to get a hold of him to ask him a few questions. He hasn't responded so I thought I would try here.
But thanks.

He hasn't been on here recently. My advice to you is to send him another e-mail- but put URGENT in the subject line. He gets quite a few e-mails a day- and he will be sure to reply to yours right away if he thinks it's important.

That we are! And of course welcome to COW! Be sure to post pics of your AB Deluxe when you get it! What style did you order?

My AB Deluxe should hopefully be arriving soon!

You mean "if" i get it.
I ordered a Raiders style Fedora.
But you see, it's been a YEAR AND A HALF, and I still haven't even been measured. It just makes me really upset to be honest.
I don't know, should I just ask for my money back and go for that guy in Mississippi instead?

I just don't know anymore.

Yep, that is all it takes and is the only measurement you will need to give Marc! If you want, you can send Marc a picture of your head (if you have a hat on all the better) so he has an idea of your facial shape. It's not necessary, but if it makes you feel better about it then go on ahead!

When dealing with the boys at AB, there is no need to worry. You will get your hat. There is just a long waiting list. Do not worry, you will see that hat soon enough and the wait will be worth it.

Marc's on a business trip to Berlin at the moment (that's where I met him yesterday at least) - yes, he still has a real job besides hatmaking ;), so he might be a bit slow right now to catch up on mails and PNs. Don't worry - the waiting time for an AB and ABD might be long (painfully long actually), but it's worth it. Trust me. :TOH:

I talked with him on the phone the other day. He is alive but has a lot on his plate when it comes to his new full time job. Remember he makes his 100% handmade hats after he has had a full day of work. These two gentlemen have never NOT sent someone a hat. Long wait times yes but you will get one heck of a hat in the end.

Yes, Marc has been difficult to get up with. Even I seldom hear from him. I know he has a new day job, that he started recently, which is probably taking up alot of his email time. I would just send him an email with your queries, and your head measurement. He will eventually read that email. I know that sounds strange, and not the way business should be conducted, but like me, he wasn't ready for the huge surge of orders that came our way. Plus he has so many irons in the fire with other Indy gear items, like the SA boots. He has overextended himself, which I am sure he realizes. If it helps any, you don't have to worry about not getting your hat. You will. We are overworked, overstressed, but we are not crooks. Just stupid is all. Regards, Fedora

Ridgl, since Steve won't say it, I will:

When he writes that he and Marc are
"overworked"
"overstressed"
"not crooks"
and
"just stupid"

You should probably be made aware of the following to points:
First of all, "stupid" should be in small print like this: "stupid"
...and followed by the words: "inasmuch as anyone who's a "glass half full"-kinda' guy could be considered stupid by some folks..."

Second, Steve neglected to add
"honest almost to a fault"
"generous"
"big-hearted"
"humble"
"down-to-earth"
"ridiculously talented"
"Master Craftsmen"
and
"Gentlemen"
to that List.

... but then... he would neglect to mention things like that.

My Great Grand father was from Canada, (does that count?), and judging from the records I found, il ne parlait pas très bien anglais.

Welcome to COW. This is a great way to spend your time waiting for your new ABD.

Basically- find any topic that has "Adventurebilt" or "AB" in the title! Then you should be good to go! (Speaking as someone who HAS read all AB threads posted within the last 2 years).

This won't help (if anything will make you suffer a bit more) but a couple of months ago I received TWO hats that I ordered from Marc... uh, a life-time ago! When they arrived, partly because I was very busy but mostly because I've waited for them so long... I just left them there in their boxes for another week.

The wait is masochistically long but it's never a regret. I don't have as much experience with hats as other older members but I've got my dose of vintage and modern hats. I've never ever seen better quality hats.

If you know anything about what it takes to make a high-quality custom hat- then there is no way you are going to be disappointed with an AB Deluxe. Other custom hatters in Europe have been shown an AB Deluxe to examine and they were SHOCKED to hear the price was so low for such an extremely well-made hat. The price should easily be doubled!

Hope you guys have a better time of getting up with Marc. I sure can't. I made him a camel hat a couple months ago, and never got a response if he ever recieved it or not. Shipping overseas, isn't always reliable, as I have found out, over the years. Have lost 2 hats in international mail, that never returned to me. So, I don't even know if he ever got the hat I made for him as a gift. Just hope that if Indy 5 gets made, I can get up with him!!! Fedora

That hat goes fantastic! Marc's totally overwhelmed by it and he wears it almost every day :)

Please feel free to give me a message, whenever you have an urgent question regarding your order or any other queries regarding AB. I do my very best do answer at least to my mails, but Marc has recently stopped to forward his mails to me, because he is even to busy to do that
Surely, I have no answers to all of your specific questions 8-[] but I see Marc once a week and hit him up with all that i cannot answer myself.
I am also a bit ashamed of not keeping you updated here! No excuses for that, as we do not want to lose the connection to all of you. Thank you for all the comprehension!

Be sure, that he'll be the old Marc as soon as things get rolling with his new job.

Wonderful! I was a bit worred it had got snagged by someone between here and there. I once sent Marc a hat years ago before he started making them, and he felt that someone in customs had opened the box, wore his hat, put it back in, and then taped it back up.

Thanks Stefan, I am now relieved, as I now know he is doing fine. Fedora

Well, Marc gave me a call Monday morning and the rumors of his death was greatly exagerrated! My friend is doing fine, no illnesses, just a much harder day job than he previously had. It was like old times again, talking with Marc. So, he's ALIVE and WELL and doing fine. And I would imagine his lovely bride gets to see little of him, unless she sits in his hat shop as he makes hats at nights and weekends. Heck, before me and the ex divorced, having known her for over 40 years, she was all too happy for me to head to my own shop at the time. Which made hatmaking a whole lot easier! Fedora

Thanks for posting that Steve.

Both myself and my brother have hats on order with Marc, and we're somewhere near to the front of the queue. Neither of us have been able to reach him, and I was getting a bit worried that he'd been ill or suffered some other misfortune.

Glad to hear that he's well, and the hats will arrive. Eventually.
