Forget the "off the peg" sizing.
You're ordering a custom jacket!
This is a special, one-of-a-kind treasure.
Do the measuremenents. If in doubt, take the requirements to a seamstress and let them do it.
Let them know it's for a jacket. You don't want it to fit like a shirt.

Or, since you're just getting into Indy Gear--make your own strap.
This is a great first project, and was one of mine!
They're inexpensive to do, and pretty much all supplies can be bought from Tandy Leather.

A real MK VII is dirt cheap.
CostumeBase is junk--get the real thing, bud.

To answer your question--you'd cut off the old strap and attach a new one, like we do on the MK VI.

But, just get a real MK VII. Todd got some in.

My old MK VI was khaki, but my real MK VII is a very faded OD--that looks khaki.
Side-by-side, you can tell the difference.

Years ago, before the COW overhaul--these were one of the first Alden's alternate boots posted. I bought a pair in 2002 when they were about $40.00 and I've been happy with them. I did add some inserts, and they've served me well while trekking across Europe. I certainly recommend them.

I think those are actually gussets, and not just pleats. In fact, you can even order a jacket from Wested with the gussets.

Since I've been building a ton of classic BSG colonial lasers, I've found the best paint for resin kits is Rustoleum--it sticks the best.

Almost there! The whip is functionally done, but I still want to add a brushed silver ring and ring-knots at the thong end of the handle... It's still quite stiff, and i'm not able to really wind it up and give it a few energetic cracks to help everything limber up just yet... Maybe later tonight. ...
