Re: My new Wested Raiders Hero
The jacket looks great! Now, don't do anymore. I think the key to distressing is knowing when to stop. Wear it well and put some miles on it.

Re: Indy Style Straw Summer Hats?
I recommend checking out Sunbody Straw hats. They specialize in western hats but also have several fedora models and even offer open crowns. Their hats are made from palm straw and can be shaped with water. They are also rugged and not as fragile as a panama.

These all look fantastic. This style really captures the quintessential Indy look. Too bad it was only featured in Raiders.

I've got to go with the Streets of Cairo version for the rough and tumble look, followed by the Venice Pier hat for the man about town look.

The current production PPK's run between $500-600 depending on your location. Most are stainless steel but blued ones are still available. It makes an excellent pocket gun.

Reminds me of a jacket that my grandfather wore. As a truck driver in the 40's & 50's, he always wore a waist length leather jacket, brown fedora, beige Dickies pants and a tie sometimes. He looked a lot like Alan Ladd in the movie China.

I've got to vote for the revolver he used in the Cairo street sceens. Those scenes are just so iconic. Besides, Indy is a bit of a cowboy and a revolver fits his character.

Re: Does Indy have but one hat?
It's not the years, it's the mileage that suggest more than one hat. Even in the world of Indy fiction, there's just no way a single hat could survive what Indy would have put it through over that long period of time. How many times would it have been covered with dust and dirt or snow and rain. How...

I cannot recommend a modern Stetson based on my experience with the Stetson Temple. Within two years, mine shrank to the point that I could barely wear it. The color actually ran in the rain. I have since learned that they use a dye powder to color their hats. It also began to come apart in flakes l...

The submachine gun sounds heard in the Raven Bar and other scenes in Raiders were taken from an authentic MP-40 recorded at a gunrange in California by Ben Burt. The MP-40 has a relatively slow rate of fire and makes a very distinct mechanical chattering sound which can best be heard in the Cairo st...

I haven't seen the movie but I think we're talking about two different hats here. Judging by the gallery images on the movie's website, Sam appears to have a shorter brim lighter colored hat in the day scenes and a wider brim brown hat in the night scenes. It's nearly impossible to guess what the ha...

That same gun has been available for about 10 years now under the Uberti name for around $650. Uberti builds them for Beretta and Beretta charges you an extra $500 to put their name on it. Beretta now owns Uberti so I'm not sure if the Uberti brand Schofield is still available. Check your local gun ...

I bought a Stetson Temple in the early 1990's. I really loved just about everything about the hat except the interior head band. I have an Avirex A-2 made in the early 80's. It is also made of very thick lambskin that comes through as tan in areas where the finish has worn off. It is literally as thick as cowhide and very tough. It's quite a heavy jacket too, nothing like Wested's current lamb offerings. Must be made from sup...

I've always found it odd that Indy didn't smoke. EVERYONE in the 1930's smoked. I believe that Indy didn't smoke because George Lucas simply would not allow it. He did not want young people seeing the film to be influenced by a smoking hero. It just wasn't fashionable despite being period correct. A...

Darkening a Wested Authentic Brown?
Can anyone recommend a practical way to evenly darken an authentic brown Wested? It's a great jacket and looks good in photos but I'm not satisfied with how it appears to the naked eye. I would love to make it a bit darker if possible. Any ideas? Anyone ever tried this?
