Re: How I made a jrzjoe special into a cracker of a cracker!

It's the taper that is the problem. No taper, no crack. That's the key part in the physics. BUT, good advice, Gunslinger! If you do increase the mass somewhat, (by saturating the leather with fats and oils,) it can help SOME. Another thing is that if the whip has a wide, flat fall, you can trim it d...

Bottom line is that I love them both and definitely miss the way they looked and smelled when they were brand new. I love "new whip" smell and feel too, but I never miss it when it's gone, because what I REALLY love is the look, feel and smell of an aged whip. I think the patina process i...

On top of that, with PH whips, you can get black PVC grips, and then paint them silver, (and distress them, attach stuff bits, etc.) to give them a really nasty "Post Apocalypse" feel, or replace the handles with lathe-turned aluminium for the same effect, (though the weight of the aluminu...

I use falls that are almost 3 foot long, so fall length is not an issue. In fact, it would be too short for me, but if the maker made it that length, there is probably a good reason. Whips made by Australian whipmakers are light (except for CS whips), so that can be the point. It all depends on weight. I'd say that SOME Australian whipmakers make light whips. Some don't. If you've blown off that much of the fall already, then you are REALLY overpowering your cracks. Something I've found that helps is to slow down. The whip will accelerate by itself, and on those Morgan-design whips, all the mass from that lead in the heel knot really gets amplified out at the "...
