Something for a little Indy fan....

Post by kwad »

My neighbors grandson came by my house the other night with his son in tow.
He told me that his son has become a huge Indy fan (already has his own Fedora) and has been watching me practice with my whip. His grandma (my wifes best buddy) told him that I make my own whips, and he wanted to know if I could make one for his son as a birthday present (he was turning 6 soon). I ended up giving him a keychain whip I made for my wife (her idea).
The little guy was absolutely thrilled (he was already jazzed enough when I showed him my collection, the little whip blew his mind). I took him outside and and gave him a little lesson on the cattleman's crack.
Suprisingly, he was doing great! Followed directions, and tried to mimic my movements.
He probably would have gotten the whip to crack, but, it was just too small (32") and not really meant to be cracked.

After telling his great-grandma what potential he had, she asked me to make him a better whip for his birthday.
I decided a full size whip would be too big for him, so I made him a 1/2 scale Raiders whip.
It's 12plt, 4' in length with a 4" handle.

Here's the finished whip;

And just for scale, here it is next to my Todd's 8'

I just finished it and took it out for a crack. It works great!
I kinda don't want to give this one up.

So, here's to the next generation of gearheads :H:

Great stuff Kwad, excellent work! I made one for my five year old, a modest 4 plait. I´m teaching him the basics and trying to get him to learn to respect the whip and to control it. At that age they are not aware of the damage a whip can do and how it responds when handled.

Cheers!

Wow very nice work kwad! It's great that young ones are fans of Indy. I'm sure he'll have a great time with it! :)

Thanks guys.
I really believe that this has been my best work yet. Knowing that it was being made for someone else, I really took great care when making it.

The little guy's father stopped by tonight to say thanks.
He's VERY happy with the whip. I told his father that hopefully he'll be able to crack this one.
To my suprise, dad says that he can already make it crack!! :D
