You're not alone! I'm from Southern Ohio! Would love to be a part of a get together.
Re: Whip crackers in Ohio??
I'm over in Southeastern Ohio, (Athens area.)
Whip artist and coach, Gery Deer is over near Dayton, along with champion knife thrower, (and a mean whip artist to boot,) Kirk Bass.
Rich Hoffman is over in Cincinnati as well.
Now, none of the above, (myself included,) are EXACTLY "Gear Heads," but they're great folks who are a lot of fun to throw whips with.
If you get a chance, you should head to the Annie Oakley festival in Darke County come August. Gery hosts a pretty nifty event there for knife-throwers, whip-crackers, gun-spinners and trick-ropers, (used to be the Wild West Arts Club Ohio Convention, now, since the WWAC has dissolved, it's just the Annie Oakley Days Western Arts Showcase.) Don't know what their schedules are like this year, but in the past, Chris "The Whip Guy" Camp, ("Canasta" on COW,) Adam Winrich, and Robert Dante have all tried to make AOD a regular stop on their schedules.

Will certainly have to try and check that out in August. Hope to be back to normal be then! I would be interested in a get together just about anywhere. Maybe if we can get a few more interested we could find a central location and spend a Saturday making some noise!
