The inconsistencies in our Indy world are appalling. The only possible explanation is that it's all just movieland fiction, and since that can't possibly be true, we just have to accept the apparent paradox, wear the gear and hope to put on some more mileage.

I have one Indy jacket, an Expo. It works for me and 99.5% of the people who see it don't know and don't care about the small details. I get more Indy comments when I wear my A2.

Before I got a good replica, I used a large (almost full-size) "six-gun" style waterpistol that I grabbed out of a bucket at a dollar store. A little paint (it was originally a semi-opaque orange) and it worked fine as a holster-filler. Sorry, no pix. It's long gone now.

I could be mistaken - I have been at least once that I can recall - but it appears to me that some of this is a legacy of the movies. A cat-o-nine-tails or something similar is what would be used to flog or beat someone with considerably more effect than a bullwhip, but in most films, especially old...

Leather - tough, versatile, breathable, water-resistant, field-fixable. Won't keep you as warm as wool, as dry as oilskins, as cool as cotton/linen/silk, as protected as armour... but it does better at the others than any of the best single-function pieces can.

I was very happy with my Todd's std. in lamb, but I sold that one on and kept my G&B goat. That gets pretty much daily wear just about year-round.
