Gear care indeed!

Well, it's Spring time as of March 20th here in the Northern Hemisphere, and warm! I know folks are already starting to pack away their jackets and the like to prepare for the warm weather....while our friends in the Southern hemisphere are just now getting their jackets and warm hats out, preparing for winter.

So, what are your annual preparations you do in your particular locale to prepare for either the coming summer....or coming winter?

This time of year I take time to brush all my hats that are going into hibernation, pulling out my straw PB and lighter weight felts, and inspecting and lightly Pecarding/Lexol'ing my leather jackets for storage.

I also determine which jackets need worked on (sleeve lengthening, new liners and the like) this time of year, as our local leather seamstress has more free time to work on jackets.

What are your annual rituals you do to prepare for what ever season you're facing this time of year, if I may ask?

I've got to be honest in saying I do nothing. But there is a reason. I really stay up on taking care of my gear on a weekly basis so the work never backs up. At my age I do have more time then most to do this. Maintaining your gear also give you the chance to handle it more often.

Understood. I do the same, and have preached that very thing for decades here and other Indy sites .... but I do have those small rituals prior to complete shutdown of the season.
I'm curious if others have theirs too.

So... ummmm.

Just what is it that you... do... over the winter that... ah... stretches your arms enough to require these adjustments?!

Nope. It was a new jacket received in the middle of winter, and it was being worn. I didn't want to do without until the weather got warmer.

This was one of the weirdest winters I can recall in a LONG time. One day it was in the 20's, the very next in the 70's. I had no clue what jacket to wear from one day to the next, so I didn't want any of the 'rotation' out of reach. They ALL got some wear time this winter.

I definitely need to get my jacket to a seamstress. My liner has rips so big that I mistake them for the armhole sometimes.

One of my big rituals is to dress and inspect my whips as the warmer weather allows for more practice.

Bit of a revival...

Happened on this thread as I was diving into my yearly ritual (I was looking for a conditioner for my SL Legend). Here's mine. Come about late August or early September, I start pulling my jackets out and getting ready for the season. Checking seams, fit, levels of wear, etc. and treating each hide with it's annual coat of goodness. Picture this: Quiet night. Kid's are in bed, wife's working on a quilt or watching TV. I'm looking forward to football in the morning. It's a cool crisp evening as I head out to the garage. Open the tub of Pecard dressing, I love that smell. Glass of Scotch sitting nearby............

Ok, so I got a little carried away, but I love the Fall.
