Yea, I think it's obvious that the jacket was based off of a Wested, just made in house by the costume department themselves. Wested did a great job of recreating the production's recreation of a Wested!

Distressing a jacket yourself is super easy and part of the fun, whether it's naturally distressed or with purpose. I have jackets which I left un-distressed and wore naturally and some I gave a distress job to make look more screen accurate. Both ways are fun.

Yikes, that looks terrible. That just looks like a regular run of the mill brown Stetson with an incorrect colored ribbon. If that's the screen worn hat, then it's been mangled and changed beyond anything that was worn on screen.

I think the washed lamb is always a good alternative. It's pretty robust for lamb.

Goat just isn't going to show wear like other leathers will so since you wanted a tough, fairly new looking idol grab jacket, you'll end up with that style looking jacket for many, many years unless you purposely use some sandpaper like substances on it.
