Very good looking whip there Riku1914. It seems to me you picked this right up and started running with it. Keep up the good work. I'll be interested to see what you produce as time goes on.

I ordered my whip in early September of 2010. The wait was longer than I had expected but in the end it was well worth it.

Yes. I use the Paul Stenhouse post all the time to figure out what lengths to make my strands. It took me a while to figure out how to read the charts but once I got it , it became pretty easy.

I make my cores with 3 staggered length pieces of paracord filled with ballchain all twisted into a sort of rope. Use a vise. It really helps keep your work straight. http://img848.imageshack.us/img848/186/img20110418175944.th.jpg The strap of thick leather in the vise is to hold the whip. You put it down in the U shape. You do still have to be careful with overtightening but it does hold your whip nicely. I ha...

I second that recomendation for the Ron Edwards book. I feel that it is by far the easiest to understand of all the different tutorials. The drawings really make the difference I think. I never would have gotten the jist of the turkshead knots it weren't for that book.

Re: Strand cutting
The edges have most of the stretchy parts. I use them for the inner parts. I make my overlays out of the center. Good Luck Riku1914 I have only made a couple whips from leather. I think its easier to work with than nylon and not so rough on the hands but there is more work to do overall.

I want to get the hang of my 7' Terry Jacka. The long handle adds alot of leverage which really changes things. Plus I'm trying to use the DeLongis style so right now its almost like starting over and the few things I already knew are evading me ![Brick wall ](*,)](./images/smilies/Indy_wall.gif)

IMO I dont think it will do any harm to a whip. Anthony's been doing it that way for quite a while , at least since Mastering the bullwhip was originally recorded and he looks young in that. If it was ruining his whips I dont think he would still be promoting it. It's not so much aginst the natural ...

by regular I meant 8". Im still pretty new to all this. I may be generalizing things a bit. I have been thinking of bullwhips with a 8-10" handle as regular and De Longis style as having around a 13" handle with what seems to be a stiffer transition and a thinner thong.

right now I am just doing simple cracking. Hoping to move towards multiple cracking. I have a few regular handled bullwhips. As of now though none from a top end maker (until my Del Carpio gets here). I think eventually I will have both. For now though I feel like Im leaning towards the Jacka.
