IMHO Distressing is just "speeding up" the aging process.. and well you are bound to distress it just by using your gear.. therefore it's WELL OKAY! I like the way you distressed your gloves. I've never thought of using shoe polish but I can see how it would work on distressing the gloves ...

The only way to stop the fray is to use a polyester thread to sew up the end where the fry has started.. then you need to minimize the weight b/c that type of fray is because your bag's weight is too heavy. * polyester is a good pick b/c it is stronger than nylon and cotton plus it's a bit more heat...

If you need help distressing the bag you might want to try dirting it up some .. maybe throwing dirt on it then try a slight sanding on the edges to give it that worn look.. don't forget the HJ if you really want to make it SA... to do the HJ try spray paint from a distance since his seems to be fad...

If you want to redye a bag the best advice i can give you is try using a fabric dye such as Rit dye.. here's there website with a bunch of helpful information on how to dye and what color you want the bag to be... http://www.ritdye.com/Home.1.lasso I've used it before on other things and it has work...

here's what I did I did rub alcohol all over the jacket to get the shine off... BUT WITH A RAG .. then sanded and went over the sanded areas with more alcohol DILUTED OF COURSE :) Just whatever you do DON'T POUR THE ALCOHOL DIRECTLY ON THE JACKET! let me know if ya need anymore help :) :) :)
