Re: Tampa Bay Whip Enthusiasts

We are still getting together. Our monthly meetings have moved to the 3rd Saturday of the month, AND we do a couple of shows a year---Coming up, TBWE is doing the Pinellas Pepper Fest the last weekend of April. I typically do the shows, but can't make it this April. https://www.facebook.com/TBWhip/&...

It was great to see you out there! The TBWE group has definitely had its ups and downs, but there's a core group that's been there for well over a decade now. Think we're going through a bit of a low spot, but that will certainly go on the uptick once we get closer to the release of 'Indy 5'. It's d...

Re: The pros and cons of an 8 foot vs 10 foot bullwhip

My personal preference is a 10 footer; to my mind, it looks more correct on a belt, and just 'feels' right to me. In a practical sense, a 10' is a good 'middle range' whip, between short 'trick-style' whips and longer styles... Something like a 10' is sort of like a swiss-army knife, in that it can ...

Re: ANY FEEDBACK ON PRACTICING CRACKS ON A WOODEN FLOOR?

Yeah, the hard floor shouldn't be an issue, BUT, it will add a whole new dynamic to whip practice. A whip will behave differently on a slippery, smooth floor as it does on grass or dirt, and you'll find the end of it has the tendency to get stuck under your heel from time to time...

4 feet for the last belly of a 3-layer, 6' whip sounds OK, for the most part... On the topic of 'Spiraling', or twisting of the braid, most whipmakers use some sort of anchor to keep the whip from twisting while you braid it--some use a sturdy hook mounted to a wall or otherwise immobile structure, ...

I'll second what Riku said...But it also depends upon the diameter of the layer. On my 12-plait overlays, i usually mulitply by 1.7 and add a foot for the longest strands, for the fall knot/etc. For lower plait counts, i go as low as 1.5x, and for stuff like 16 plait i add even more...but 2x is a li...
