When I was traveling in Thailand I arrived in Bankok in the middle of Songkran. When I arrived at the hostel I was staying in I looked like SoC Indy, everything was wet or dusted/caked with a cornstarch and water solution. I have to say though, my AB looked GREAT!

I'm wearing an HJ Poet in my avatar, if memory serves correctly it used to be whiskeyman's. Fits a little snug now and could use a bit of a reblock, but a VERY raiders fedora. It's semi-retired now that I have the AB, but I love the hat and would be hard pressed to part with it.

just a quick FYI, that's a MKVI they've got there, not a MKVII. For many people it's a close-enough alternative, but it's not stricly a screen accurate bag. It also varies internally from the MKVII, something about an extra flap on the back or something. Someone more knowledgable about them ::coughs...

It's real fur, but there is no leather involved, excepting the sweatband. The fur is effectively shaved off of the pelt, then spun around in a machine to make felt. This felt is what is used for the raw hat body. A grossly oversimplified way of explaining it, but it works.

I love my Optimo, but they're definitely dress fedoras. I know Agent 5 is very fond of his, but I wouldn't recommend getting one as an Indy fedora. For a dress fedora on the other hand, they're tops.

I'd try the spray bottle of cold water before trying steam, I think some people here have had mixed results with steaming an akubra. Steaming the hat may encourage taper.

Hem, that is an amazing hat, and it has officially pushed me over into the 'saving for a new Ab' mode. I especially like the slightly narrower brim and shorter crown that LC is famous for. I've got about 3 jars that I'm saving up into, I have to be less of a consumer :roll:
