You do see raw edges on incredible cheaply made leather goods that lack any attention to detail, but then again that pretty much describes all the new Disney props save the crystal skull for fans of that film.

You can also try putting (cheap) vodka into a spray bottle and liberally soaking the surface inside and out and then letting it air dry. Worked for some old canvas webbing. May be worth trying before a warm water hand wash.

The Wested I found to be close to spot on (minus the pleated front) when compared to Eastman Leather, which are precise WWII copies. This is what I use. 1918 canteen with the officer variant leather holder. I wanted it because it had an actual belt loop and didn't require a webbed equipment belt. You can also get a shirt that fits your neck size and then have a seamstress take in the sides/chest for a perfect fit.

All the SOF uniforms I have purchased were made in Pakistan. Some are quite good, others are cut poorly. Would think for the price Wested is a better bet.
