I have a NH LC web belt and I believe he distressed most of his web blets. From what I can tell of his distressing, it does not reveal any silver or steel base.

For a final coat that does not have any tacky properties, use Krylon Satin Clear. It is an acrylic clear quickly dries. If there is any area on the gun you feel is too shiny, then just lightly rub it down with a piece of grey scotchbrite (grey is a lighter abrasive than red.) Hope this helps.

I always thought the part you have as yellow was know more as the "sweat stain" since it runs right along the edge of the ribbon pretty much around the entire crown. The smudges and "dustier" areas on the crown and brim are just dirt stains. Both effects made possible by fullers ...
