My Black Mag HJ

Post by Caber »

I’ve had this hat for about 3 weeks now. Its a Mag HJ with a vintage Iron ribbon that Mr. Delk so kindly gave me . Its a very sharp hat in my opinion. It has been a dream of mine to own a black Indy style hat with a grayish ribbon( Iron color is in the grayish category)
Thank you very much Mr. Delk for making a dream come true :TOH:

I’m trying to make the brim shapped like the one in LCS movie. But I cant seem to get it. Yawl have any pointers ?

Tell me what you think . Remember, don’t worry about hurting my feelings

Did you mean "KCS"?

If so, I think your pretty close. Pic 7017 shows it off nicely. The overall look might be helped if you could get the top front of the crown just a tiny bit lower. I know, you ask about brim, but sometimes what you think is wrong isn't. It's worth a shot.

I ment Last Crusade so I gues it would Be LC. The brim In that movie has alittle bit of western flip on the sides.

How would I go about diong this?

I really like the color combo. That hat would look awesome with a nice black double-breasted suit.

It would look amazing with a suit like that or with a black over coat

Just push the center dent down in the front
So just sit it on a table or somthing and push straight down on the pench from the top of the hat ?

How do I get that curl on the sides? just mess mess with it ?

Well, when I bashed my hats, I held it sideways, and pushed down the front and back sides with my index finger until they were at the appropriate height.

Did you see the Penman video tutorials stickied at the top of this section? It might help out and generally make you less afraid of messing with your hat. You gotta get after it while it's still fairly new ( assuming it is ) or else it'll be trained and thus harder to change the shape. If that's the case you may end up having to get after it with a bit of DISTILLED water and an atomizer - just a bit of a spritz in the place you want to adjust.

We saw different brims in TLC film. I am thinking you are wanting the curl up, on the sides.

Since your brim has shellac in it, all you need to do to steam just the sides of the brim, and then with your hand, curl it up to the desired degree, and hold it in place until the steam dries. Only take a couple of minutes. Then repeat on the other side.

If not enough, curl, do it again until you reach the amount that you seek. This is really easy to do, so don't be intimidated. Just DON'T steam the brim from the bottom, so that steam gets inside the hat, but rather steam from the top side of the brim, and then the brim only. Try to keep the steam off the crown. A hand held travel steamer for clothes works great, but if not, a tea kettle works too, as the steam comes out in a smaller stream instead of like it does from a pot of water. Hold the hat well above the heat as well. Don't get to close to the heat source with this thin HJ felt. Hope this helps your out Caber. The hat looks great on ya too! Fedora

Here is one with a suit . It was taken the day after I got this hat, so it looks pretty bland

I am not sure, as I am not familiar with this type of steamer. In lieu of a teakettle, you could use a very small pot to boil the water to generate the steam. I generally don't recommend this for new guys, but as long as you jus steam the side of the brim it should be ok. Just be careful. Fedora

Caber,

Great picture with the suit. So many of the pictures here are casual/adventure in nature it's nice to see a fedora matched up with a dress outfit.

I have a grey CS AB on order with Steve that will be my "dress-up" hat to go along with my "everyday" Penman brown ROLA.

Indeed. I doubt that you could get away with wearing a certain "pin" as an accessory.

That is a very sharp hat. :)
