Re: If you must get a Dorfman Pacific...

Well, I know I cannot watch the movies (1-3 anyway) w/o wearing a fedora. Any fedora will do. And depending on the price of DVDs where you are, the hat is basically free. Not bad for a popcorn bowl.

Re: Christy's Adventurer!

So I'm thinking about buying a plastic block from hatshapers.com to throw my Adventurer over every couple weeks or so, just to keep it from tapering too bad. Has anybody done this, is there a large difference between the plastic block shape and the christies shape? Is there any danger to the hat? Ke...

Re: Christy's Adventurer!

I realized today, that I was trying to make my Christies SA, but not to any Indy film. While staring in the mirror, I realized I wanted my hat to be SA to Erri's.

Beautiful Lid, man.

Re: Brim work.

Thanks!

Basically, I just wanted to know how it was done. Brim is ironed while it's on the flange, then it's good?

I expected it to be more complex than that. Why doesn't everybody do this as part of hat upkeep?

Re: Brim work.

After reading this again, even I don't really know what I mean. My questions is can somebody explain to me how to set the brim of a hat. Or am I just guessing right based on the pictures of seen of it being done? Is there a secret step?

Brim work.

So Marc's said that he leaves his fedora on its brim if he's out and w/o his stand. Because it's easier to fix the brim than it is to reblock it. I gotta agree. It's probably easier. I'm looking at investing in a flange for the brims for my hats. I just don't know what to do with it afterwards (i.e....

Re: who wears their fedora in street clothes?

As long as my shirt had 2 or more buttons on it, I'll throw on a Fedora. Otherwise it's baseball cap (for errands) or newsboy cap (for going out/traveling). Although I'm looking at another Fedora that would be my Travel/Adventure hat. Akubra?

Re: Christy's Adventurer!

My Birthday Adventurer is finally on it's way! I'm excited. In the meantime I had bought a carbon grey fed IV. And looking on getting another one in brown. When I first joined this forum, I was expecting to only have 1 hat!

Re: Let's all talk about "the turn" some more, shall we?

Well thanks for your help and opinions. I was on my own intellectual quest just to see how common it really was. Because this is such a part of the Raiders hat, I decided to share. I'm sure I'll have more info the next time I visit my hat shop!

Re: Let's all talk about "the turn" some more, shall we?

Also, I'm watching Goldfinger right now a couple of the characters do have turned hats. Or it could just be a misguided attempt and wearing them leaning a direction, it isn't clear.

Re: Let's all talk about "the turn" some more, shall we?

Here we go. This picture is by Esther Bubley. It was taken in 1947. The man on the right definately has his bow over his sideburn, but I can't tell if the ribbon is crooked or if it actually is turned. Does anybody know of any other historical instances of the "turn?" http://web.ncf.ca/ek8...

Let's all talk about "the turn" some more, shall we?

Hello.

Now, I know 'The Turn" wasn't common in hats pre(or post)WWII. But was it entirely unheard of? Does anybody have pictures from the period that has the hat purposely turned? I'm wondering how accurate to the period it is, instead of accurate to the movie.

Thanks,
Mikey

Beaver Brand Rain?

Hello, All!!

So it is raining and cold once again here in NJ.

I was wondering how a Beaver Brand Hat from Lee Keppler holds up in the rain.

Any experience?

Any help would be most helpful!

Have a great day!

Hello, This is my first post. Please excuse my lack of Picture, I'm waiting for my Adventurer, I had seen erri's Youtube videos and seen the pictures here and I think, being a college student on a budget and all, that's the best choice for me. I've been lurking on these boards for a little less than...
