Re: Braving the Elements...what say the hat?

I prefer a well worn, beat up, sweat stained hat anyway. I wear my fed 4 fishing, working in the yard, hiking etc. Dust it with Chinchilla powder for Halloween. if it falls apart, I'll hang it on the wall and buy another one.

Those Wolverines are gorgeous boots. Here are my budget Indy boots. Picked them up at my local workwear place for $35 last year. They were made by a Canadian company named Daoust who also made awesome skates back in the day. The store had a rack of these, which have probably been sitting in the stoc...

Gus's whips are awesome. If you're going to spend $200 anyhow, you might as well a get a really good, usable whip.

I had one and could crack it, but for the price I paid, I would have been far better off buying one of Gus Caicedo's, or Adam Winrich's. I have both now, and there is no comparison between Gus or Adam's whips, and a Joe.

At around the 11 inch mark, about an inch or two before the thong starts to curve into the coil, there is a strand drop, a rather obvious one at that, and my question is this, would David Morgan ever drop a strand so early on? From what I know of David's technique, he wouldn't normally be dropping ...

Thanks. Did some cracking today. It's a dream. I've always had a bit of trouble with the volley but it's a piece of cake with the IOAB. Maybe once the whip gets well broken in it won't be as easy anymore. Will be interesting to find out. Very nice whip.

IOAB Arrived

Got a nice surprise in the mail yesterday - a Winrich IOAB. It's been raining so I haven't had a chance to start breaking it in or cracking it, but it looks like it's a super nicely made whip. Can't wait to start using it.

I'm learning how to use my right hand (since my left is dominant). I'm surprised how easy it is. In fact, some cracks that I was having a hard time getting the hang of with my left hand were easier with my right and once I figured them out with my right, I could transfer the technique to the left.

The Volley

Is it hard to do the Volley with an 8 foot whip? I've been working on it for days and I just can't get it. I end up tangling the whip. I noticed in Adam Winrich's video that he uses a 6 foot whip. I would imagine that the shorter the whip, the better.

Don't know if you did the right thing or the wrong thing, but making noise and letting the bear know you're there isn't a bad thing. Kind of similar to using a bear banger. Problem with bangers is, if you fire one over the bear, you can scare it towards you. Not really a problem with the whip. If a ...

Forgive my ignorance, but I just don't get the point of turning the hat. Is it to make it more SA, or does it actually improve the shape of the hat? I would think that you would put the hat on your head so it's sitting naturally, and then start to shape it.
