Re: My Wested Distressed LC Two years later….
Well, if you're looking for a costume jacket then mission accomplished. I think your jacket looked a lot better before you took the acetone and sandpaper to it. There's definitely divided camps between natural and artificial distressing. Guess which one I'm in?

Re: G-8 jacket - $150.00!!!!!
That jacket has been listed for at least 6 months on that site at that price. I tried to order one when they had more (listed) sizes with an additional 20% discount, but alas, they ran out of XL Talls. I understand that the G8 never was military issue, but a US-made leather jacket at that price seem...

Re: One Year Into a Wested Horsehide Raiders
At the risk of offending and/or hurting the feelings of some..... I just don't GET the whole distressing thing unless you have a good reason for going someplace in full costume. Granted, some distressing jobs look pretty good, but like most things, less is more. From what I've seen in photos, Tony N...

One Year Into a Wested Horsehide Raiders
Picked up this Wested Raiders in horsehide last July. I have a number of other leather jackets, so this one was put into the rotation and worn a fair amount, although not as much as my Aero's. I finally took the time to take some photos to show how it's breaking in. Here's a few observations.... 1) ...

Re: How much does your jacket weigh?
I own a Wested Raiders in horse, and an Aero Highwayman in Front Quarter Horse. There is no comparison. The Aero is MUCH heavier than the Wested. There is also no comparison in break-in time. The Wested shows a lot of grain after less than a year -- more so than 2 years of hard wear on the Aero. A F...

Re: Rachel Flannery?
Oh, THAT Rachel Flannery. Now it's all clear. I thought you were talking about the Rachel Flannery that I knew from 4th grade. She had a red Schwinn bike, and was pretty good at tetherball, but I'm pretty sure she didn't wear a US Wings, since Indy didn't even exist then. I think her jacket was from...

Go real easy whatever you use. Any horsehide has a tight grain, and if you have a Wested that hasn't been beat-up much most of whatever you put on it will probably just sit on the surface. I own 3 horsehide jackets, and have never treated them with anything. It's naturally water resistant to begin w...

I only own one Wested Indy jacket, but I ordered with D-rings because I didn't know any different. I set the straps where they looked and felt best, and they haven't slipped at all. Reddish Undertones
I too have checked my new HH Wested under a lot of different kinds of lighting (sunlight, incandescent, fluorescent), and I don't see any of those cool reddish undertones on your jacket. Didn't see any charcoalish-gray, either. Just brown. The surface does seem to be developing that horsehide patina...

I'm sittin' here right now in my 6 or 7 week old Wested HH. Your jacket looks great. I love the grain and color. Well, The Movie Shop is located in the UK, and the members there are always complaining about the high duties paid on goods imported from the US, so between that and shipping, that $675 Tony Nowak would probably be closer to a grand anyway. In its favor, horsehide is virtually waterproof without any coatings like Pecards. Cowhide is heavy, but can absorb a lot of water, particularly if it's a distressed surface -- unless you Pecard it, and then it doesn't look quite so distressed. Goatskin shares a lot of the water repelling qualities ...

Actually, you did say: I'm just coming up from $150.00 and it's a big step! But for $150 you ain't getting no scaled exactly to the original jacket. Well, with temps. in the high 80's and climbing, there's still not much of an opportunity to wear my new Wested Raiders HH, other than just wearing it around in the house with the AC cranked-up. It's only about 40 bucks more (at current USD to GBP exchange rates) to go custom and get exactly what you want, made in the UK. That's less than 15% more, and worth every penny. Horsehide was a hugely popular jacket material in the US from the 30's through 50's when millions of horses were replaced by tractors and cars. World War II era A2 jackets were specified to be made of horsehide, and vintage specimens can fetch thousands. They were also made into biker jackets by leg...
