Re: NEAD DESPRIT HELP WITH PLATING MY STOCK WHIP HANDLE!!!
Hi Caber, There are different patterns that can be used for 8 plait but the standard herringbone pattern is to to start with 4 strands on each side of the work. If starting with the right side, reach between the second and third strand on the left side and around back to grab the top strand on the r...

Re: Indy movie bullwhip sounds in .mp3?
Hi Ron, If it doesn't have to be sounds straight from the movies, I have some .mp3's of me cracking some whips on my site that I posted late last year. A friend recorded them on a professional DAT recorder and they sound pretty darn good. Look under the heading A Fun Visit and you should be able to ...

Re: Jumping in: My first whip, at least, that I'd show in public
Hi Keepay, First off great job on the whip. I can't add anything more to what Franco has mentioned regarding the whip itself. As far as bolsters, the other practical aspect is cost. Kip is much less expensive than 'roo. By using it to fill out and shape the whip, you've brought the price of the fini...

Re: Whip Basics Vol. III / Compilation
Hi Robby,
I really like the idea of all three volumes together in one package. Sorry to hear of the
legal problems but as you said, it offered you an opportunity of being able to reshoot.
I look forward to ordering it soon. Thanks for the update.

Hey Lauren,
That whip looks great! I really like the look of the handle. I also like the knots
you weave, very even and precise.

Re: Is it a bad idea to store a bullwhip in a display case?
I think you'd be fine storing your whip in that fashion. You want to keep them
from extremes i.e. a closet/dampness or direct sunlight. As long as the display is
on a wall that doesn't sit in the sun all day, you've got an ideal and sharp looking
storage solution.

Scott

Re: David Morgan No Longer Braiding, so?
Hi Will, I had a correspondence with Mr. Morgan back in the mid 90's and he was gracious enough to answer some questions I had sent him by writing his answers on the paper, diagrams and all. That's class and that is David Morgan. I'd say Mr. Morgan is like the favorite teacher to many in regards to ...

Good job and hope you make it to the Northeast in your travel...

This is one of the things I love about this forum. You open it up in the morning, with a fresh cup of coffee ready to read the latest from makers and owners and you come across a post like knibs7 explanation of his injury. Now that I have the coffee wiped off my screen I can give a big THANKS to kni...

I was doing some browsing this morning and came across this article. Thanks Shagbd!! I keep in touch with Paul and Lauren and a few months ago Lauren mentioned she was working on the Katana whip. Whip making class
I was fortunate enough to take Paul Nolans whip making class earlier this year and thought folks would enjoy reading about my experience. http://www.showhips.com/blog I had a lot of fun(and sore hands) and highly recommend Pauls course to those who’ve thought about making their own whip. I can’t tha...

Saw the film last night and I must say I wasn't as disappointed as I thought I'd be. There are parts that work and feel like the Indy we know and love. But then........... there are parts that are just so implausible that it takes you out of the moment. Remember the scene in Phantom Menace(I think t...

Thanks for the warm welcome. I took two pictures which I sent to Paul earlier as he was interested in my Aldens. As Paul said, repetition is the key to whipmaking and proper plaiting in general. As I was short on time, Paul tied the handle butt Turks head. It's not quite the shape I'd like but I kno...

Room for another member?
Hi everyone, I've been lurking for awhile and thought I should introduce myself. My name is Scott and I live in upstate New York. I recently finished the whip making course offered by Paul Nolan of Midwestwhips and have since been busy setting up my studio at home. I've visited the Indygear site man...
