Re: What Is It About the Streets of Cairo Look?

Question about the ribbon - has it been determined that the ribbon was indeed moved up on this hat and retacked? (we've seen images I THINK of sew spots in the middle of the ribbon for instance.) Or did the ribbon just ride up at a point? It does seem to have been placed higher on the SOC hat and 30...

Hey, Gang - Didn't know which way to go with this. And not looking to get rich either but I have a 1984 Morgan 10' 455 whip. Yes, made by the man himself, that I may be looking to part with. All hatters I talk to are short of beaver currently. They get it from Portugal I think who gets it from Ukraine or so. Something like that. I'm pretty certain it is rabbit. The way it crumples in the rain and the fact that all other HJ hats in all of the other films were rabbit, etc.

And the rabbit finish on HJ is pretty good - I have one of their rabbit Raiders hats and it looks great!

Me, what I would do under these circumstances, is order a Crusade hat (with desired pinch from whatever photo you send) but request a brim of Raiders width (commonly held to be 2 7/8" front and back, 2 5/8" on the sides). The crown height of Raiders and crown height of Crusade are the same...

Hello! Consensus has always been that the nature of the felt involved has a lot to do with it - rabbit vs. beaver, thin vs. thick, etc. We know that H Ford and costumer sat on it, crumpled it, turned it and recentered the crease, etc. On mine, while I don't always sit on it, I have. I think it will easily go back to its original shape as long as it wasn't soaked in water - regardless of how soft. It will remember its center crease. For instance, Jones has this hat all but crushed in his hands "I don't know I'm making this up as I go" and it came back. What would kill ...

Hey, Jack - Thanks! Also, does the Raiders ribbon come slightly wider too? (around 1 3/4 inches). Hi, Jack -

The block history will be interesting. My question has always been (and not that there is a clear answer) as to why HJ would transition away from that Raiders block. In meeting with Swales in 1986 he said they changed it up a bit but I was too much of a kid at the time to press him on it.
