Re: When/how was the Raiders Turn Discovered?
I just went through all Rundquist's posts. He doesn't mention the turn until 2009. I did the initial research on the turn, late 2002, early 2003. I coined the terms "Riaders Turn" and "TheTurn" but those posts got hacked out of existence. Rundquist had a problem with my turn theo...

Steve offered me a hat making job once. Told me he was making the movie hats when that was secret. He was the first person I had a conversation with on the web, at Indyfan in the 90's. I thought I came across him on a hat forum recently. Living in a shack in high desert in the West, in the sweet mid...

The Homburg connection
There's this fresh looking Brooks Brothers HJ black HOMBURG been on eBay for 6 months. It had a price drop and I got it. Never got into the Toht hat, but I always thought it was a Homburg. It has a ribbon on the brim edge 1/8 wide on top, 1/2 inch on the bottom, same as the movie hat. So I feel sure...

Considering that the 2018 Prop Store auction showed the size 7 1/4 stamped in gold ink with a circle around it on the felt just above the sweatband? Re: Got a vintage H.J. sold new with a telescope crown
The Puffa doesn't seem to be the key. I'm thinking maybe wardrobe put a teardrop bash in the Raiders hat. The costume designer said the crown was a little too high. A teardrop bash would be a simple way to lower it. Pretty sure a teardrop was as common as a center dent in 1936. Problem is, I detect ...

Re: Got a vintage H.J. sold new with a telescope crown
O.K., I think maybe I've figured this out! When I pop up the top on my H.J. Puffa, the crown above the side transition point is a very round dome compared to flatter, squarer open crown Indys. WHY? Because the little dome inside the telescope is shaped to match the curve of the scull and rest on top...

Got a vintage H.J. sold new with a telescope crown
I've been claiming the Raiders hat once was a telescope crown, for about 18 years, because I observed concentric lines in movie stills. The 2018 auction displayed the hat with a telescope teardrop bash. Fans were outraged the hat had been altered, and the auctioneer protested that the hat had just a...

Went to ebay yesterday and found a brim flange with more flange in the front and back than the sides. Never got into brim flanges before. Seems there are all possible types. The bumps in my Stetson Indy are only in the front and back, when the brim is flipped down, no bumps in the sides. Go to the t...

Yeah!, "Hawk bill". I called it "chicken beak" in a long ago post here. The flip in back seems uncharacteristic for the Raiders hat, but the bump in front is the same flange curve that causes the flip in back. My Stetson Indy looks just like this. https://images.propstore.com/488...

I remember the Raiders hat first auction. All the pictures indicated no brim flange. Most of those pics are on the Indygear fedora page. All the "Indy" fedoras I have owned have a gradual flange, an even curve from crown to edge. Except for a Stetson official Indy. The flange on that hat i...

You might spray it with a little water and iron it at a low setting, then slowly turn up the heat until you like the results. I'd do it through a paper towel.

Here's pretty much proof the hat was turned. The back of the brim opposite the front flip is also flipped up. Hard to tell for sure. The effect is not extreme or erratic, but can clearly be seen in the photos of the Cairo hat from the auction of a few years back. The 'crescent' is much less apparent in other frames. Could be the sweat is detatched there. I've got about 5 inches detatched in back, but this would be a lot more. Not impossible though.
