I have a replica from Magnoli as well as an original. I use the replica daily for work and the original for vacations, etc... I'm actually on vacation right now and using the original. It has held up good over the past year. Like above the webbing holding the strap rings is starting to wear through....

Good luck, TD235! There are not many stores out there that sell a variety of hats. I don't think there is a big enough market to sustain a brick and mortar store. Down here in AZ there are a lot of cowboy hats. That's about it. I know of one guy that makes custom hats but that is few and far between...

I am hoping to order a Penman in the not so distant future. I am just curious if most Penman owners did their own bashing. Is the Penman beaver felt easy to bash? Does it require steam or can you dry bash it?

I think the Federations will be a tad hotter than others with the plastic cap in the liner I think you hit the nail on the head, Randy. That depends. I don't believe the Akubra is top glued, but I wouldn't swear to that either. It's been a long time since I pulled one out of a Fed. You'll find a small line of glue on the sides and front under the sweat band. Just lightly pull it and it will pull loose, then put the sweat band back ...
