The wait for the first fedora

Post by simndermot »

So I ordered a Federation regular yesterday. I know it isn't a top of the line AB or a custom made Penman, but it is a huge deal for me. I've wanted a fedora for 29 years, since seeing Raiders when I was six. I figure if I have a good experience with it, I will order a custom hat down the line. I am very excited though, I can't wait for it to arrive.

Special thanks to all the people who have researched and discussed and debated the finer details of the fedora and it's relation to the Indiana Jones films. You guys/gals are great.

How does one cope with the waiting? Is there a support group?

Well, the nice thing about Feds is, you don't have to wait very long! They ship FAST!

Congrats! You can't go wrong with an Akubra. They're great hats. I've owned several. ;) The wait shouldn't be too long, either. Anything I've ever ordered from Hats Direct usually arrives in a couple of days to a week at most in my experience.

And I see Michaelson and I were typing at the same time again!

You won't be disappointed. It doesn't cost much, but it is a very decent lid for the price. Good choice to start with!

I recently ordered the last Federation Deluxe 3 in my size... and it arrived one week to the day from ordering it. Granted, i ordered it at 1:00 am eastern to make sure I was catching them before the end of their business day.. but still! Fast shipping on good products in a more than suitable box! Can't ask for much more (especially at the prices they offer).

And no, there is no support group that I know of... but there are plenty of threads right here that will make the wait so much worse

I think you'll like it and, yeah, the shipping usually doesn't take that long at all.

Good pick! Great hat (probably one of the best for the price) and great service from Hats Direct. Have fun with it. I guarantee you will be for a custom down the road.

An excellent place to start! You'll have a tough, good hat that's nice, fairly priced, and quick to arrive. Wear it in good health! :TOH:

I must echo other members comments here. If the bug bites, then you'll be hooked on customs for all your other lids, but for a start off the Fed is amazing. It's hard enough to take practice bashes as well.

I wish I'd made such a wise choice, but I started riiiiight at the bottom with a DP and then a Christy's. Might as well just thrown my dosh away.

Again, nice choice dude! :)

If you want to have something to do while you wait, search the fedora section and see what folks have done wearing their Federations over the years.

One of the nicest versions that has weathered well is the one VP has owned and worn for so long. You can see it in his avatar. That's a Fed that's been around, and keeps on going!

Oooooohhh... the wait. All of us have been there. What I did when waiting for my first hat was read through all the threads relating to the Christy's (when I was waiting for the Christy's) and the Fed IV and PB threads while waiting for the Fed IV and PB.

I got as much info on the hats as I could to help with the wait... although I'm not sure if that really helped me cope with the waiting. It made me more anxious. Hehehe.

Ahhh, it never ends... I got my Fed a couple of years back and yet I'm still waiting......just for a Penman lid this time. It seems that when one arrives, I just order another and the wait begins again. ](*,)

I started with a DP and then a Christy's too, now soon I'll have a Penman!

Good choice with the Fed!

Whoa, Hatsdirect ships crazy fast! I received the hat within 7 days of ordering. Now to pour over the forums to find out how to shape it. Pics will posted once I get it somewhat shaped. I will say that the felt is really nice and I only ordered the Fed regular. I can only imagine how the deluxe feels.
