Re: Help with best jacket to get in the UK ???

Import duty & tax (VAT) is a nasty shock. I think it is limit £30 (including postage!) & over that it is considered importation. It can add 25% including handling fee VAT & import duty AND they add it to the postage costs too! Disgrace really. The Royal Mail is skint, as is the country, ...

I find sizing is thus.

Mine are marked as a 10D but fit me perfectly... I am an exact Size 8 UK or 42 Euro.

Todds are coming up a size smaller & include US - UK conversion makes this correct. 10 is UK 8

I find Branston Beans to be better than Heinz & widely available in 4 tin packs for £1.00 in rubbish pound shops, Londis & Spar. I think they have it about right, maybe £10 over. £40 would be VAT alone. Plus Import Duty (used to be about 10%) plus handling (used to be a tenner). But remember...

OK you can try getting it shipped to a friend in the States and getting them to ship it to you. I reckon you'd be looking at $30. Catch 22 is declaring value for insurance should it go missing vs duty. You can also try "sample" or "gift" too. If you are confident of the size stri...

I've got the one. OTR Wested Goat cos it was cheap, it fits & looks good. I wanted a G&B but they didn't bother to reply and didn't want the shipping/customs aggravation anyway and I reckon it would have been nearly £300 all in. I enjoy reading all the posts about the specifics with the jack...

Off the rack sizes with better quality leather. Wouldn't that be ideal! :)

Wish I'd known this a couple of months ago.

Is it too simplistic to say that the easiest way to tell is the yoke falling bellow the arm seam on the back, would make it a non UK made item?
Mine is like that, and no Union Flag nor Made In UK tag to be seen.

Out of interest, how much did you get stung by HM Customs? I really want to order one in goatskin but I fear the duties.

Royal Mail is broke, so they claw back any money they can as I was told be one employee, "because we can, or it gets sent back."

As a collector of A2 & USN G1 jackets, both original and repro, that has all the pebbles of goatskin. On the face of it, that looks like good hide.

Mr Indy Holt

Is Novapelle really steerhide? It says "Novapelle an antique brown horsehide" on the site.

Looks to me like the mark they used to line them up was the wrong one. Looking at it, it seems to be out by the exact width of the strap.

Yoke seam & sleeve seam

I've seen 3 examples and was just curious what is correct and why the difference.

Sleeve seam ending below yoke seam?

Sleeve seam ending on yoke seam?

Sleeve seam ending above yoke seam?

Thanks.

"I have a US wings flying jacket in goat which is really tough but i dont think an Indy jacket should look that stiff, it nedds to be loose and soft so it "rides" the right wasy IMO"

I just got a goatskin Wested this week. It is really soft and nothing at all like my Eastman A2.

Would the horse be worth the £10 extra for a standard Raiders?

Half my problem is I don't know what I'd get off the peg.

Off the peg options. Any good? What is the standard regarding lining, D-rings, X-stitching and zip type? £135 can't be knocked and I don't know if I can be bothered with custom options and the extra £30. I can't really tell from the Wested site pics what is what, as some of the same pics have been u...

Thanks for the info... I'd love to get a G&B Expedition but shipping, customs, sizing etc.

Can't decide between goat or horse with Wested.

Probably go for 80's Raiders in (?) with all cotton lining, straps like yours and snaps, if allowed to go this way.
