G&B sizing and other stuff...

Post by Tollan »

Well... I've been away from COW for a long time. Mainly due to having to travel a lot for work, but the excitement of the 4th film has drawn me back!

Anyway... I recently exchanged my goat expedition jacket for a USW goat with another COW member because I realised that my expedition was basically too small, a 40R. I'm about 6'1" and 180lbs. I wrote to G&B who sent me some leather samples. I really liked the lamb! However, Nyla, one of the sales representatives, said this:

"...Are you interested in the jacket only in Lamb? The reason I ask is that the jacket is normally made from goat skin which is much more durable. Lamb is very soft and sleek looking, but will snag or scar quite easily."

She also recommended that I get a 42T. So... my question is this. Does anyone have a 42T out there and if so would you have the measurements? I really like the idea of getting a lamb G&B for the warmer months. Also, IMHO, the G&B jacket are by far the best made and are genuinely made to last! I have owned USW and still own a 9 year old Wested (almost to the day) both of which were great but I really felt "at home" in my G&B...

OK... enough of my witterings...

Cheers,
A

Out of interest, how much did you get stung by HM Customs? I really want to order one in goatskin but I fear the duties.

Royal Mail is broke, so they claw back any money they can as I was told be one employee, "because we can, or it gets sent back."

Well... I got it second hand from someone here in the forst place (it had hardly been worn at all) so there were no customs costs. I did get a USW vintage cow about 6 years ago and the customs was about £75 I think!!! My memory may not be serving me well though.

It might be an idea to get it sent to someone in the US who could then forward it on to you. This may be one way round the customs?

I'm your size - 42T is pefect. Haven't got time to measure it, however. Goat is real strong and soft. Perfect.

Hey! Thanks for that!! As I said I used to own a G&B goat and, yes, it was really nice after it had broken in! I'm still in two minds... I will see what the USW goat is like when I receive it. I hear the USW goat is very light and supple. There's just something about goat that feels "plasticy" to me and I prefer a less pronounced grain. This is simply my taste though...

Hi CM,

Do you have a photo of you wearing your G&B lamb? If your the same hight and weight as me I'd be really interested in seeing how it fits. I'm torn between getting a 44 or a 42T.

Cheer,

Sorry, no camera, etc. All I can say is that the fit is good. Sleaves are long, as is body - but it a good way. Fits pretty much like the film version. 44 would be much too big. I can fit a really thick sweater underneath teh 42T. None of that 80's fit BS.

Cheers

G&B has a pretty good return policy, or at least they used to -- 6 mos., no questions asked. If they still do that, I'd just order the size I think I need, and if it doesn't work out, return it.
