By the way, I noticed the handle has that indentation which is typical to the Raiders Era bullwhips. Could this be one of the Raiders whips reused in the two latter films? Good observation Marhala :TOH:. While anything is possible, I strongly suspect that this particular whip was made after Raiders...

It was indeed a leg of lamb... Now, a leg of lamb is far more massive and has a MUCH better grip ergonomics, so killing you with a frozen halibut would be far more difficult than with a leg of lamb...So I guess I'll refrain from any attempt. Just keep cracking. :whip: Have to agree. I thought I "muscled" mine a bit too much, for the first 25 cracks or so, but found some good info on this site. Just use it and take care of it. If it's of any quality, you can't wreck it, if you follow a few simple instructions found on this web...

I don't suppose anyone scientifically knows exactly why a hand-braided whip will have a natural coil direction even before it has ever been "forced" into a coil, but there are theories. I'm sure there are other theories as well, but these are the top three I could come up with off the top...

See that's why I never spoke the word "Plait" to a whipmaker, because I was too nervous I would mis-pronounce it, and sound like an idiot. I would write it "plait" only. So I always said "braid" a whip, when talking about it...... LOL!

I have only one issue with the Joe Strain 10', at it's handle base... Where the wrist loop and the handle come together, it's not as accurate on screen of Raiders as the one you see sitting on the table at the Imam's house. The rest of it is very accurate except for that extra single loop of leathe...

Were you looking for strictly an "IJ" replica? If that's the case, I can't offer much. But I will say that whatever "style" of whip you decide on, Strain's whips are very, very good, for all the reasons mentioned before.

Just tossing in here. I bought a Wilsons Leather Adventure Bound cowhide bomber in 1991 for $250. It has a zip-out Thinsulate lining.
