Hey guys. Thanks for the input. To answer the questions, it's fur. And no, it isn't a vintage Stetson. If it was, there would be no question. It was brand new when I bought it about a year ago for just over $100, long before I decided to do some research. And you're right, they sure don't make them ...

Is it Possible/Worth it?

Well. I've got me a hat. A Stetson. I've had it for about a year now. I figured a hat was made to wear, so that's what I did. I worked in it a lot, wore it hiking, things like that. Lots of sweat and a couple of rain storms later, it's looking pretty worse for wear. I'm talking more than tapered her...

I have an original, unissued MKVII. Based on my experience, I would not suggest it for everyday use. After about a week of actually using mine, lots of the stitching began to pop and start to unsew. Then, to top it all off, the loop that holds the ring on tore. I was able to repair most of the damag...

If thenew ribbon is shiny, I can only assume it's something you bought at your local fabric store or Micheals type store. That would likely make it polyester. And not much you can really do with it. Yeah. Guess I should just get a new ribbon. I was just in the store, saw it, and decided to give it ...

Dulling the Ribbon

So I recently replaced the ribbon on one of my hats. The problem is the ribbon is very shiny. I was wondering if there was a way to dull the ribbon. Anyone have tips on this front? I was thinking maybe spraying something on it might do the trick, like hairspray or starch. Maybe if I take some fine g...

Heat maybe?

I think the way they are made is put into the press wet and then heat up, and it hold the shape.

According to Panama Hats Direct all you have to do is spray them down and use a hair drier. But because its a different weave, I don't know.

Now I just need to decide what band. I'm thinking navy blue.

How difficult do you think it would be to bash one of these suckers?

I find I look good in a fedora with whatever I wear except for t-shirts. I've seen some guys that look greta in fedoras and t-shirts, but its not for me. I find it goes well with jeans, as long as they aren't super light jeans. Also, my brown fedora doesn't go well with my stone colored khakis, they...

I'm 7 5/8 as well.

Isn't 7 1/2 just 1cm smaller? Unless 7 5/8 is tight on you, it shouldn't be too bad. Should it?

OT: Am I the only one who thinks this would make a great Belloq hat? http://www.berkeleyhat.com/noname32.html :junior: -M That brim is a little too small to give it the very dramatic roll in the back. I think that their regular, $28 Panama would be better suited, assuming that the brim is easily sh...

I agree. That's a nice looking hat from the website, and you really can't beat the price if it's all you say it is. I would especially like to see the brown one.

I already own a cream Panama, but that brown one sounds interesting. ####, at that price, I might just order both.

I've had a Panama hat for years, and its indispensable for summer wear. That way not only do I stay cool, but I don't look like a complete fool walking around in a South Louisiana summer with a fur hat. Just thinking about that makes me sweat. I have done it though. :D I've been trying to Belloq-bas...

I Guess It's That Time...

I re-bashed the Stetson today. I got it pretty good looking, but not good enough, for my tastes anyway. There's the taper, though, and the short crown, and every other problem that makes it not a proper Indy hat. Everyone I've showed it to doesn't know the difference, but we do, right? Anyway,...

So What Do I Actually...Do?

So I've got my hat, a Stetson. Been trying to bash it right for the last month or so. I play with it, shaping it, and I get it pretty decent, but after a while of wearing it, it all pops back to the way it was before. The pinch in the front stays, but the crown dents works its way out, the side pock...

Good looking hat.

I was never able to look good in a tall crown fedora, so my hat is about as far from SA as possible. But that one fits you great.[/i]

I've been trying to decide wether to go with a WPG bag or a Magnoli bag. I've got an unissued MK-VII, but I want one for actual use, and the Magnoli bag seems the way to go.

I think I'll order one next week.

Cologne

Do you guys think that Indy ever wore cologne? I figure he wouldn't worry about it when he's out in the field, but when he's back home, teaching class, it's possible. What do you guys think? I was thinking maybe some English Leather. He seems to sophisticated for Hoyt's. Old Spice maybe, though that...
