It's soft enough to bash, but I don't know what it would take for it to hold that shape.

Heat maybe?

I think the way they are made is put into the press wet and then heat up, and it hold the shape.

According to Panama Hats Direct all you have to do is spray them down and use a hair drier. But because its a different weave, I don't know.

Berkley responded to my email today.

They say that if you wear a 7 5/8 or larger, like me, you're outta luck. They were polite but honest.

So, you smaller-skulled types enjoy them. Would have been nice, but...

Ohhhhhhhhh, well.

Thanks for that Spatterdash.

I wear a 7 5/8 as well. Well, I'm actually somewhere in the middle. Bond, how is the fit?

The fit is a bit on the big side. I would try it. I'm sure it wouldn't be that much too small. Plus it will probably stretch a bit with wear. At that price yoy really can't go wrong and you can always give it away as a gift if it really is too small!

Well I'm thrilled with the way the post has gone. Thank Indiana Bond for providing that lovely info for the hat. But like everyone else's issue I need to pick the band color.
What do you think the Chocolate brown version looks like?

Am I the only one who thinks this one looks a little more Indy-like? And it has a sweatband, something you can't do w/o down here in the summer.

Greg,

Mine's the $28.00 Panama Hat from Berkeley.

http://www.berkeleyhat.com/panamahat.html

It may be the same hat as mine but has a sweatband installed. The only other difference would be that it states the brim is 2 1/2 inches on yours. Mine measures out to just under 3 inches which makes it closer to the SA Indy hat.

They also state that the hat without the sweatband will stay cooler.

"The only difference--- no sweatband. Wear our hat in the hot sun for a few hours, and you will see why. The hat wicks up the sweat, passes it of into the air and you stay cooler because there is no barrier stopping the sweat from passing through."

Which one is actually better in the hot sun? Anyone have any experiance with sweatband versus no sweatband?

Anyways, they both look great and you definately can't beat the price!

:P
