Re: Optical Illusions (and do ghosts really steal my pencils?)
I don't really have a stake in this debate as I don't really care about one vendor from the next... but as an illustrator my eye refuses to see the differences based on photographic angle, focal length, whatever... the flap on the King jacket is just proportionally different. Why? Don't know, don't ...

Knockoffs happen all the time in the apparel and clothing industry all the time and not a lick can be done about it unless the knockoff purports to be from the original maker and makes use of copyrighted material such as the original maker's marks. Re: Yoke Seam Relative to Sleeve - a Big Deal?
I feel the shorter yoke in the Raiders jacket probably contributes to the correct functionality of the action pleats (due to the way they sit on the shoulders), but that's just me.lpa53 wrote:Does it really matter? Are TOD or LC jackets supposed to have the same 1" seam relationship

I could buy that the drop into the river was a cloth jacket. Can you imagine trying to swim in a soaked leather jacket? Ouch. Also, regarding the lack of manufacturer's tags in the alphared's jacket, and the pre-LC timing, could this be a prototype for the licensed jacket that Ford's people got ahol...

I love Hats Direct, but if the Federation is a slight long oval, I must have an incredibly long oval head. By the way, I don't. I find all Akubras, including the Fed, to be rounder than almost any other brand of hat I've ever worn. They are right about the conforming, though. Actually, with ruler i...

Well, I happened to figure out that I had a round oval head more or less by accident. When I ordered my first Federation I had inadvertantly measured my head too low in the back, so I ended up ordering a hat two sizes too large. But one thing I noticed when I put it on was that my head made contact ...

It's just distortion; you're sitting too close to the camera. The second set of pictures look better. The biggest problem, I think, is that the hat just looks too fresh. You're going to need to be willing to literally put your hat through the wringer if you want a top notch Cairo look. Hey, Holt... ...

no,no the seam is tilted bakwards. the seam beginns at the same point as a normal shoulder seam should do. meaning from collar stand to top center sleeve. but in the ToD it was from collar and tilted away from top center sleeve. the RED line indicates a normal shoulder seam to top center sleeve...t...

Beautiful jacket, starks. Simply beautiful. Why does nobody mention that the back panel length does not extend all the way to the sleeve seam? People jump all over this detail on other jackets. Length, or width? Because the yoke seam is above the sleeve seam, and that is correct. I'm not sure about...

Just order your normal size. Though it might feel tight at first, the sweatband will eventually conform to the shape of your head. But the looser the fit, the less effective the turn will be. The fact that your head is distorting the shape of the oval is what causes the brim to get that asymmetrical...

John Falcon, Do you have a round oval head? A round oval head will stretch a reg. oval crown sideways and certainly make it look wider and squatter, same way that a long oval head is really needed to get that perfect Raiders silhouette (as it stretches the crown lengthwise and keeps it nice and stra...

I've put my Todd's shirt through the normal wash and drying cycle now three or four times now and the shrinkage has been minimal. I find that if you want to sit on the hat to give it some character, you REALLY need to work it over with your hands some first to break up the stiffener. Especially not being much of an Indy-Fedora fanatic, I was surprised that today, when I rewatched Raiders, how much BETTER Indy's hat looked in KotCS than in Raiders! Careful... that's borderline heresy 'round these parts. ;) I hate to say it, but to me the CS hat was just too... perfect. I' m with G. You have to sit on the hat. You have to crush it, flatten it, get it to crease along the edge of the ribbon. The Cairo hat is extremely relaxed, almost to the point where the turn doesn't affect the swoop anymore. And yeah, I think it's assumed that the ribbon was cinched tighter to com...

Personally, I think it's an insult to the purpose of the hat if you're not going to order it in a size that you can wear. In Raiders, the sweat stains on Indy's shirt are quite clearly toward the brownish. This would indicate that his shirt is a light beige or tan. My Todd's shirt, when wet, turns a dark khaki. That swoop of the brim can only be (or is at least most easily) achieved while it's on your head. It's a product of your head distorting the shape of the turned crown. Though I can't tell if there's enough turn to make it work... it looks like the bow isn't far enough forward. Edit: Aeris beat me to...

In ROTLA in the cairo scenes the shirt is almost white. That's an illusion caused by the color being washed out by the bright sunlight. It's clear from the wet spots all over the Cairo shirt that it's actually light tan. The Wested shirt matches screen-seen (in that scene) but not screen-used. ;) F...
