Can anyone point me toward the shuffle board or knitting circle? :D

These are the threads my Bride laughs at me over.

"Aren't you guys all interested in the rugged manly nature of the character?"

"Of course, My Sweet, but a good shawl neck cardigan keeps you toasty warm in the winter too."

HEY!
:x
You can let your lady know that just yesterday morning I ate a meal that consisted of egg mixed with leather, sawdust, sandpaper, snakemeat and burlap seasoned with Old Spice...
:D
Sure, it also had cheese in it and was technically a quiche with a delightfully flakey crust, but...
Hey, what are you all grinning about?
:[
Aaaanyway, HERE's the dish on my latest yummy sweater find (*squeal*)
:P

Seriously, though... Stumbled across this a little while ago...

If you wear either an XL or an XXL, go to Amazon.com and Search under "Ben Sherman Men's Long Sleeve Shawl Collar Sweater"

It's a pretty nice looking Close Enough in a color I love called "Almond Marl"...
No mention of exactly what material it IS, though... but it sure looks pretty good.

I'm the wrong size for this, so it doesn't help me, but I hope it helps one of you fellas...

Well, they're just now starting to clear out the summer stuff and stock the fall stuff, so if they're coming out this year in the stores, it will be within the next few weeks.

Also, one reviewer says they are 'woefully undersized. easily two sizes smaller than advertised,' so if you wear a medium, the XL, or maybe even the XXL, will fit you.

The Kohl's in town has little to no winter sweaters in stock yet. I'm sure they'll be roling them out in the next couple of weeks though. I wish I would have gotten the one they offered last year though. Hopefully, it or something more S/A will come around this year.

This doesn't look to bad, kinda like the patches on the elbows. My duluth (I think it's a Dulth) is a tad thicker at the batck of the neck, sorta pushes my head forward when wearing the jacket.

Heres the O.D. one.

Hi guys,
I’ve got a couple of possibilities here to pass along… including the one I’ve settled on (just placed my order, in fact!) :D
When all is said and done, it captures what I’m looking for in my own take on this look.
:)

The first is a tip about an ebay auction that’s happening right now:
Go to ebay and type in “Ralph Lauren mens rugby cardigan sweater large $128 nwt”
Assuming it's till available, it’ll take you to an auction for a pretty nice Ralph Lauren version of this sweater… Someone in Florida is asking $99.99 for it.

The other cardigan is produced by Canterbury of New Zealand
First, here’s the SCENIC Route:
Go to their website at http://www.canterburynzusa.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Once there, a little down the left side of the page you’ll see “Sweaters & Fleece” under the heading of “LIFESTYLE MEN’S”…
Click on that and it will take you to a page showing you a selection of Sweaters & Cardigans including one called a “Jack Shawl” that’s been marked down from $168.00 to $126.00
Click on the picture and it will take you to the next page where you can view the cardigan in either the Charcoal OR BROWN color simply by selecting the colors to the right of the photo.

The DIRECT Link to that page is HERE: http://www.canterburynzusa.com/JACK-SHA ... 51889.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
(This is the version I’ve just ordered… Looking forward to seeing it in person!)
It will quote you a Shipping Cost the further you get into the purchase process, but the price it quoted me (but don’t QUOTE me) to ship to Maine was about 20 bucks on top of the total. Despite the exotic name, the distributor appears to be located in New Jersey. ;)

Anyway, I hope these two leads might be helpful to some of you as well... Lemme know if it was!
Cheers!
Mitch

As it turns out, the Canterbury of New Zealand Cardigan is gonna take a little bit more time to get to me:
I'm up in the Great White North and they charge $60.00 to ship to Canada! :x So I've got it going to my brother in Maine instead (for the cost of $20.00 S&H), who'll then pack it up and send it along to me in Nova Scotia for about 10 bucks. :?
There's the extra wait for me, but I'll save a little dough.
:)

Funny thing is, the minute I found what I think is the right sweater for me, I found another one that I picked up as well!
:D
I was out shopping with my wife when she pointed out the store called H&M, saying "like most other men's clothing stores, they're not only following the trend of epaulettes and military styles in their menswear that finally put you BACK in Style, but they're also likely going to carry shawl-neck cardigans since those have started showing up in movies & shows like X-Men First Class and MadMen... Did you want to go in and check?"

I did go in and sure enough, found this:

Without Flash:
Image

With Flash:
Image

Really LOVE the color of this one! Seems to match -quite nicely- the color I seem to be seeing on the one Ford wears in MOTB.
:)
So, when all is said and done it looks like I'll have a couple of “close-enoughs” to choose from!
Not bad considering a few weeks back I was assuming this would be my second winter of wanting this extra layer but not HAVING it.

Cheers!

Thanks for the heads-up on this sweater Mitch. I found it today at the H&M store in downtown D.C.

I had no plans on getting it today but it was 1 block away from the Alden shop next to Ford's theatre so I literally walked into it. The color is more golden than brown IMO and it is a lot thinner that last years offer from Kohl's which makes me think it's going to work a lot better under the jacket. But the color :-k I might have to dye it darker, not sure yet. Post pics when I get home.

Cool. Glad you (for the most part) seem to like it. I agree about how it being perhaps a bit thinner than what Ford wore but how that my be a better, more comfortable way to go.
:)

Not sure if I agree about needing to darken it, though... the color in the shot above (with NO flash) looks pretty close to what I think I'm seeing in this photo below (despite color being such a very subjective thing)

MAN I love these sweaters, and not just to be SA. I wear this kind of sweater around the house just about year round, but ESPECIALLY this time of the year.

Still haven't come across one in my travels (as TS has proven, he had to leave Tennessee and find one in D.C. ).

Maybe my sister can make me one. She's currently the knitting czar of the family..... :-k

Shawl-Necked Cardigan

Post by lantzn »

I had a sweater in the same thick fabric and pattern, big buttons, collar and all as what Ford's wearing in that pic back in the mid 80s. The only difference was it was a cream color with a brown geometric pattern on it. It got very hot wearing that garment as I recall. I can't remember wear I got it. When was that photo taken?

Your welcome Mitch, well I went to my local Banana R and bought one, regulary 130.00, but this weekned and in the store only, there 40% off.
So a 130.000 shawl neck swaeter only cost me $78.00, a $52.00 dollar savings, couldn't pass it by. Tommorow I'll have the misses snap a shot, won't be all MOTB, but you'll get to see it.

Basically a light tan color, not the SA brown, but there still get others in so who knows. :-

As promised, here's some pic's the misses just took.
Tried on the Med & Sm back and fourth, back and fourth. And where I typicaly take a M, I opted for the S this time. Why you ask, let me explain. All my other cardigans when worn with the jacket hang to far past the jacket and I feel as though it should just be past the bottom. Just my nickels worth. ;)

I don't think that's ever been discovered. The picture is from the Young Indy Chronicles TV show. The show was struggling with viewership so GL asked HF to make a cameo to bookend the Mystery of the Blues episode. HF was filming The Fugitive at the time, hence the beard. IIRC The Fugitive was released in 92 or 93.

Here's the bookends. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfSHM0Ryvxg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Wow poor viewership is surprising. My wife and I didn't watch much tv during that time and so we are only now catching up on the episodes on Netflix. The production is amazing with some of the most beautiful scenery. Every episode feels like a movie. We are into season 3 now and love the series.

It started out on ABC, but when it failed to find it's audience (it was usually shown on a weeknight, and most kids weren't allowed to watch TV on those nights  ), it was picked up by Family Channel.

Re: Shawl-Necked Cardigan

GL's audience was definitely kids and hoped showing Indy as a child would attract them as well as their parents that had enjoyed the movies. He wanted to use the show as edu-tainment to teach kids about some of these historical figures and events, Forest Gump style, with Indy in on the action. I think though, as Michaelson and TS pointed out, the show aired too late on weeknights for the target kid audience to be reached. And the production values are very good, but that also made it very expensive to produce.

Based on interviews GL's has given since, in regard to producing TV shows, it seem GL took it personally when the show was cancelled. Hence the early days of the Clone Wars, he had at least a season's worth of episodes 'in the can' and sold them in mass so that whomever bought them would have already paid and have the incentive to run them regardless of the viewership. I haven't heard anything lately about the live action Star Wars show GL has talked about producing, but he has said in interviews he wants to have (IIRC) 100 episodes already finished before he shops them to networks. That's basically 5 seasons worth of shows. Seems very high to me.

Hey guys, just wanted to let you know, if anyone has been interested in the cardigan at Banana Republic that Croft has, you should buy it this weekend. BR is having a 30-50% off one item sale this weekend. Normal price is $130, I just picked it up for like $68. Good deal.

I have been working on a shawl necked cardigan for a while now, and they are finally available. I wasn't really thinking IJ when I undertook this project, but it might be of some interest.

Ya might want to resize that one my friend as that pic is huge. ;)
Otherwise, looks nice, any other colors or just the off white.
