Shawl-Necked Cardigan

Post by Adventure Dog »

Hey guys, I just thought I'd quickly show you a find for the Shawl Neck Cardigan for the cheapos out there (like me!).

Kohls has an alternative made of Cotton/Nylon/Viscose (whatever that is). Not wool, but what can you do?

Colors looks good, not really SA, but definitly Close-Enough! I got a similair one from Kohls last year for Christmas in black. If I have a chance I'll take a picture of it and how it looks in person. Not the same one, but really similair.

Here it is! Just in time for winter!

I tried on this sweater yesterday when I was in Kohls. It's a really nice cardigan! The sleeves were just long enough for me to roll the cuffs back.

If you want a really great close-enough, then this is the sweater for you!! :TOH:

Hey, this sweater is on sale now at my local Kohl's for $35. I snagged a 20% off coupon and got it for $28 plus tax! Great deal on a pretty good CE cardigan.

I just picked up one of these this week at Kohl's. It was on sale for $24.99 and I had a 30% off coupon. I only paid $17.49 for it. For about the price of a t shirt, it was a no brainer of a decision.

The sleeves are nice and long so it actually fits my long arms. The body is a little too long, so you have to tuck it up under the jacket so that it doesn't hang down below the bottom of the jacket. The Turkish Coffee color is a fancy name for brown and it is quite nice. Another plus for me, is it is cotton instead of wool, so it is not itchy at all. All in all, it is a great close enough. And, if you get it for the price I did, you really can't beat it.

On the other thread, this was called "MOTB cardigan". What does MOTB stand for?

Mystery of the Blues. It was an episode of the Young Indy Chronicles. Harrison Ford plays a cameo at the beginning and end. He wears a sweater under his jacket. Check You Tube to see the scenes.

For those interested, Duluth Trading Post has the Woolpaca cardigans in stock again, these are VERY close to the MOTB cardigan.
I don't know if it is posted on their web site yet, but you can order by phone. Mine arrived last week and I'm wearing it now, very warm and cozy. :D

I couldn't pass this one up... just bought the Kohl's sweater and I have to say I'm kinda looking forward to wearing it. I'm not much of a sweater guy, but I just can't pass up Indy-esque items.

A fantastic deal at $22.50. I picked up a shawl necked cardigan from Roots about a year ago, and I had to save my pennies for that one, as it ran me $100.

I've only seen snippets of the end of Mystery of the Blues (MOTB). But it looks like Indy's cardigan is a dark brown and his scarf is a light tan or light brown. Someone please correct me if I'm off on the colors. Watching MOTB also makes me want to learn to play the curved soprano saxophone.

Magnoli's current Wyoming scarf looks dead-on to me. I'm not too sure about the cardigan though because he has it pictured in the tan color. As far as the style goes, it looks to be very SA as well

I picked up a couple of the Kohl's cardigans, I I love 'em, and I wear them all the time. Plus, I get compliments on them constantly! Not exactly right for MOTB, but darn close.

Same here on the Kohl's sweaters. They're clearing out winter stuff. May not be screen accurate but for $10 can't really beat it. Got a charcoal one to go with my black Indy jacket also.

I've checked several of the Kohls around So.Cal and they've never had them. Guess that might be the problem of living in a slightly warmer winter climate.

If anyone can get me one I'd gladly send you the money via paypal or something...

I would reimburse someone for one, too. I had a Lands End cardigan in spice brown and 4 buttons came off already. Sweaters don't get a lot of use in Phoenix, but sometimes they are nice in the winter.

May I ask, Steerpike, how long you chosed the cardigan compared to the leather jacket? Does it stick underneath out? I'm just unsure concerning this measurement myself ...

Well, my one and only jacket is the Raiders Todd's, that also suit me perfect, so with the cardigan the effect is a little more 'fitting' than the one in the movie MOTB. Seem to me that the right jacket would be the LC one.
Actually I use another larger wind jacket for going out with this kind of knitwear.

I have a Land's End rolled collar cardigan and it is longer than both my Wested Raiders and Wested LC. Both jackets are on the short side compared to other warm weather gear, so just about any correct fitting cardigan is going to stick out below and Indiana Jones leather jacket.

Nothing beats package day! I just wanted to post a big THANK YOU to BEMO for going out of his way to pick me up a clearance Khols sweater. I'll try to get out to the snow this week and take a couple shots with it.

Thanks again BEMO. I'm always amazed by the generosity of the fans on the site who selflessly give of their time to do favors for complete strangers bound by a shared love affair of a hobby.

Highest Marks for the membership, and BEMO,I owe you one. I hope someday I can return the favor. :TOH:

Just to throw this out also, Dillards the other day was having a pretty good sale on shawl collared cardigans. And in the off seasons you can get some decent priced ones online from GAP. But with GAP you have to get them quick or you get weird sizes left....

I also have a Wyoming Sweater from Magnoli and when I ordered I sent him the body length and sleeve length of my Wested and requested the sweater be made to be slightly shorter. It fits great under my jacket without hanging out and whereas the length of the sweater is a bit shorter than average I prefer how it hits me right at the beltline rather than being a few inches longer. I find the shorter fit to be more comfortable, especially when sitting.

For those who are looking:
I was in Sears the other day and they're also offering a cardigan very similar to the Land's End version that Adventure Dog mentions above...
They were in the 85 dollar range and came in a color very similar to the "Coffee Heather" version that Land's End offers.
