Mine has all cotton body, I don't think it causes ride up with shirts.

You have to adjust the shirt sleeves underneath when first putting it on
but other than that its fine.

I wouldn't get gussets this time. They may be useful in other jackets but unless they are big enough they don't really do anything useful - as I believe is the case with the ones Wested installed in my jacket... If I ordered another jacket I'd get goatskin for something different. I love my cowhide ...

I think its personal preference more than anything.

I have read that the Drings have trouble on the thin leathers (ie. lamskin)
I have cowhide and they work fine (and I think look great!)

If it is too warm for a Cowhide, in my opinion, it's too warm for a jacket.
this is also my opinion. If its too warm to wear my jacket I'll be in a t-shirt.
I mean I love the indy jacket, but not so much that I have to wear it in any temperature. :wink:

The goatskin is supposed to be lighter and thinner than the cowhide. Its also stronger. Cowhide is still very strong, but heavier and thicker - so much warmer. (which is why I went with the cowhide) I don't think there would ever be an issue between predistressed cowhide and normal cowhide in regard...

I'm experiencing the same thing as you but don't think its a problem really.

With my arms down by my side the sleeves come to the knuckle of my thumb. I think this is too long, and am hoping (as I've read here) that over time they will creep up a bit.

When driving they are fine.

what happens if it tears off , how durable is it? hmm hmmm if your worried, don't get it. :D Everything else about Wested seems to be high quality, I doubt they used the worst, cheapest elastic they could find. If it snaps after however many years, I guess my jacket will be like the other thousands...

I think I've landed firmly in the Michaelson camp on gear distressing.

They sure are. Heavier and, when new, MUCH stiffer. Once broken in, though, they last several lifetimes.Top end of the 'leather toughness' scale, even higher than goatskin. Regards. Michaelson

Actually, if we want to look at what Indy's jacket WOULD have been made out of, you must consider the time it is supposed to be taking place. If indeed, it is the late 1930's to early 1940's, then his jacket would probably be made from Horsehide. I've never worn a horsehide jacket. Are they heavier...

Dan - No it doesn't make any difference where you get it sent to.. The jacket was to be sent to my home address. I had it changed to work address after customs rang me, because I needed to pay them money and sign for it (obviously I wasn't going to be at home to do that...) Your bag probably doesn't...
