Re: Yojimbo Jones/AB Side by Side - New Pics
Really like the shots of the hat on - as mentioned somewhere else, the nice thing is that there's no exaggerated bulging of the crown, and the brim looks to do what it should for a Raiders hat. The back still seems just a schmekameter too tall to me, but as we all know, that varies between scenes in...

Re: Christy's Adventurer!
I've been thinking of actually sewing some fleece to the canvas to make it more like real millinery cloth - anyone ever try this?

Re: Christy's Adventurer!
I started out with a vintage block I bought on ebay, then just started filing and sanding it until I got it to where it's at now. I agree that the back is still off a bit for Raiders , obviously the block needs more tweaking, but I've been really happy with the front. The brim is done with millinery...

Re: Christy's Adventurer!
Here's one I recently did for a guy going in a Raiders display: Of course, it's been re-blocked and I've re-done the ribbon, but I feel the results are pretty good: http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/9/3/3/8/0/6/webimg/381672878_o.jpg http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/9/3/3/8/0/6/webimg/381672897_o.jpg htt...

Re: EBAY SCAM WARNING!!!!
I got this message this morning: "I am completely embarrased and furious. I discoved that this was the work of my son and I assure you he has been severly punished. I have been a legitiment eBayer for many years and he has put my reputation at risk. This item will be removed from auction immedi...

The guy knows he's been caught - he's now asking people to email him if he doesn't relist it. (ie. if ebay kills it, which they should.)

I know!! I just got off the phone with ebay. They've been trying to contact the seller all morning, whose account has apparently been hacked and is being used by someone else to sell this.
I wonder whose face that actually is? LOL

EBAY SCAM WARNING!!!!
There's a guy on ebay, with a surprisingly high feedback rating, claiming to be auctioning off the "FIRST INDIANA JONES HAT". One that, on the set, Harrison Ford tossed to him after finding that it was too big. It's not even a Herbert Johnson - looks like some tan crushable Australian thin...

Re: Remember that weird English hat block?
Very cool! I know there's been a lot of discussion about the back of the hat, which has always been of the most interest to me as the Raiders hat was so different from all the rest in that respect. How does it look from behind?

Re: How would Indy replace his fedora?
I think it means more to me have it be the same hat. I think Steve helps convince this hypothesis to me since I have a good feeling (and I think John has even said this), that a hand-made AB hat could easily last a lifetime. But the cool thing is that until established for sure on film, it's up to ...

Re: Vintage (?) Herbert Johnson mystery fedora
You would be correct, Michaelson. And now I can read that signature on the Bulletproof as "Joe Peter Jr." I'm unfamiliar with the "Swales scissor marks"? That's interesting about the felt - I thought, though, they only recently started offering the soft rabbit fur felt. I haven't...

Re: Vintage (?) Herbert Johnson mystery fedora
Thanks for that but as it turns out, I was wrong. I threw caution to the wind and took the ribbon apart, and it's exactly like a PBros. with one-piece construction, just black 1 1/2" ribbon. I know they do use that chalk writing, as here is what my "bulletproof" Indy has inside of it:...

Vintage (?) Herbert Johnson mystery fedora
I bought this hat recently on ebay. It was advertised as a vintage, early 80's HJ that had had a Peter Brothers sweat and liner put into it. I have a modern HJ, as well as a "bulletproof" Peter bros., and here's what I'm seeing: (In the pics, the photo of the hat w/o the ribbon is the PB.)...

Re: HJ Location and dates!!!!!!!!
I have to wonder when the blue unicorn looking crest was used. We did see this unicorn looking crest as well as the burgundy 5 sided crest in the hats from the Lucas Warehouse walkthrough video, that some folks probably still have a copy of. I have seen the black and white crested liners, but not s...

Re: Todd's Uptowner Fedora
I have ordered ribbon from Todd's, and have both the Uptowner and Downtowner. The ribbon on my Uptowner was exactly the same as the ribbon I've gotten from Todd's, but quite different from the brown ribbon on the Downtowner.

Re: muffin-topping
Does "Screenused" still visit the forums? Being the owner of the Hero hat, perhaps he could answer some of the questions concerning the sweatband and such. Though it sounds like Steve is right about the felt itself being to blame for the effect and why it doesn't act that way in TOD or LC....

Re: How would Indy replace his fedora?
True, but it is a movie. Keep in mind too that for some reason the man wears the exact same pants, shirt and boots, but his hat and jacket change every three years. :-s So what really lasts longer - your pants/shirt or your beloved hat/ jacket? (Perhaps Indy found a surplus store in the early 30's a...

Re: How would Indy replace his fedora?
Wow, I guess that last pic. answers my question - DEFINATELY not the same hat. Ha! It looks like the shows costumer bought an off-the-shelf Dorfman Pacific, got it wet, slapped it on Sean's head and tied a new, far-too-wide, ribbon on it. "Haven't you ever heard of suspension of disbelief? NO O...

Though "Fedora" having an English hat in Utah and a Connecticut hattery having Herbert Johnson sweatbands/ liners stretches the imagination a bit.

How would Indy replace his fedora?
I'm just wondering- is the hat he gets as a teen in UT supposed to be the hat he wears throughout the movies? We all know, of course, that not only does the hat change between movies, it changes between scenes! But in the lore, does anyone have any theories how/ where he replaces it after leaving it...

Re: Another Raiders vintage block
Perhaps it's the way it's bashed, but for my money, Steve's hat in the thread "Addressing the back of the Raiders Fedora" is closer to the Raiders hat than this one. There's a fullness and roundness in the former that this one doesn't quite capture, in my opinion. Still, a mighty fine look...

Moths and other hat hazards
I recently bought a hat with a moth hole in it, and was wondering if anybody else had experience repairing them and what they do. For me, using an Exacto knife, I was able to cut out a small plug from under the sweatband, and with a little white glue, glued it into the hole. Then, using a needle, I ...

Re: just had my first, "that's not Indiana Jones' hat" moment
That has happened to me SO many times! I usually wear a floppy, wide-brimmed, crushable hat in the field. So I've gotten the "Idiana Jones" comment a number of times. But when I wear the actual hat no one says anything . Ha! Goes to show that often times our perception/ memory is not reali...

Re: muffin-topping
I tried to imagine all the things that could have happened, but who knows? If there were a dozen hats ordered (I'm guessing a few of the German hats could have been included in that.) who knows how many were actually "Indy" hats, and where they were used. But I think it's safe to say that ...

Re: Addressing the back of the Raiders fedora
I've been working on my own Raiders block also. What I thought was funny was the comment Steve made about how different something can look in life...
