Thanks for the info Michaelson and John. I do stretch it out a bit on the long side. I am used to wearing it that way and I love being able to wear something that was my dad's.

Re: My Grandfathers 1949 Fedora
I just clicked on the pictures for a closer look. I was amazed to see what looks like the same asymmetric shape to that hat as my father's Stetson. The left side in the picture seems to curl slightly differently than the right. Mine has the same drop off between the snap brim and the side. They are ...

This thread made me look back and re-forward my original order (April, 2008 - just before gabrielle) to Steve just in case it was among the lost orders. If BendingOak says he will come though, I trust him. Well actually both John and Steve. Steve was overcome by his success (a common situation in sm...

Re: My Grandfathers 1949 Fedora
Very nice! I have a gray Stetson that belonged to my father. I think it must be from about the time I was born because it was a larger size than most of his and he was mostly bald by the mid 60's and probably buying smaller hats. I also saw a detailed picture of the Kennedy inauguration and saw seve...

Congrats on your retirement!
I'm not quite there yet, but my co-workers gave me a similar treatment for my 25th anniversary with Ford.

Re: Moonstone Fed IV - Bash Courtesy of Bending Oak
I have an early Tawny Fawn Fed IV. It is still rather stiff.
I was not able to get the crease the way I wanted it until I wore it to a football game in the rain. I adjusted my crease while it was wet and it has stayed exactly that way ever since. Over two years now.

Very nice, I've always liked the Last Crusade hat.
The color adjustment is a nice change of pace. Of course I have a Tawny Fawn Federation, so I also like lighter hats.

That was great Marc! Unfortunately what little German I was able to learn in college has evaporated in the last 25 years, so I only picked up a word here and there, but I enjoyed getting to see it. I got some brake dust on my Fed IV the other day from stupidity. Strones, I saw that Akubra video too. The link where I saw it went dead a while back. It was interesting that Akubra forms the cones with a wet slurry of fur, more like making paper. Resistol uses vacuum to attract the dry fur to the cone and then gets it wet afterwards. I cringed seeing that worker...

As to water resistance of a Fed IV, I wouldn't worry too much. I sat through the first half of a football game this fall with a constant fine rain. This reminds me of the ending of the movie Clue. Being old enough, I saw Clue in the theater. I believe there were three possible endings, but each theater randomly got a different last reel. Just be sure that the widest part doesn't come too close to your ears which would leave no room for the brim. Check yourself in the mirror as you measure. Also, the lower the hat fits, the closer the top of your head comes to the top of the hat. You don't want to limit the amount of top crease you c...

Gabrielle, What size is your Keppler and how well does it fit?
