I think you're very lucky and this shows the benefits of buying from a top class person. If you're a scientist you'll be familiar with the principle of Occam's Razor which basically states that the simplest explanation is generally the right one. No weird, undocumented chemical effects or anything l...

Yes, but for $500 you can do better than Aldens too. No matter what, you're paying a premium because of the Indy connection. Once you get to a certain price for what are mostly plain old leather boots, how much better can they get? I too would like an upgrade of the Todd's boot for around $100. As ...

Re: New Coyles's Indy Boots from Todd
Why would you do that? Because Todd's boots, fantastic deal that they are, fantastic value for money that they are, do not approach Alden quality in any way whatsoever. That's why. Until you've held in your hand, and worn a pair of real Aldens, you don't appreciate what a real pair of shoes is. I'm...

Todd as you well know my emails were like this: 1. I initially asked you to confirm that expedited shipping had been used because the package still hadn't left the US after 6 days. 2. I then asked what could be done in terms of compensation for the delay. 3. I then asked what the procedure would be ...

My 10Ds arrived this morning and it's even worse than I feared. They're a full inch shorter than my Aldens and much narrower. I'm not sure even going to an 11D would do it as they're so narrow I suspect I'd have trouble tying the laces without leaving a gap down the sides of the tongue. Overall the ...

I have a pair of AF64s. They have a Vibram sole so perhaps they feel different from the standard model. I've worn boots regularly over the years so I don't feel them at all heavy, but they are the most comfortable, supportive boots I've ever worn. My feet are particularly sensitive since I had surge...

Todd I appreciate your honesty but this is a real bummer. I've already paid 40 dollars for shipping to the UK, and there's a fair chance I'll have to pay about the same in customs etc charges, all for boots that are almost certainly going to be of no use to me as I ordered the same size as my Aldens...

How about an assessment of the durability of this boot? Is it trailworthy or is it costume quality? As for those of you wanting lugged soles etc. to each his own, but I speak from experience when I say that treaded soles are a royal pain. Mud gets stuck in them, it dries and then it releases as you...

The last two Todds jackets I ordered didn't get charged customs fees. The postman brought them to my house. I think Todd marked them as gifts which don't get charged. I'm afraid that's a common misconception. If customs suspect it's not really a gifrt they'll charge you what THEY think it's worth, ...

Glad to hear you've finally got your jacket and I hope it's ok. I first tried the close enoughs. I bought the Farnums. Then I was reading about everyone buying Aldens from Schmidty. I saved up the money and ordered a pair. After deciding that the 405s were probably not best suited to the Scottish climate I bought a pair of AF64s a couple of months ago and have no regrets. I guess you're asking because you don't feel quite right in it. The same happened to me when I received my first Wested a few weeks ago. To be perfectly honest with you I've always stayed away from the 405 because of the flat sole. Although it is SA, I never thought it was practical for a real adventure. That's why I got the J. wouldnt it work if they wrote GIFT on the packages? I'm afraid customs can do pretty much as they want and they are alert to all possible tricks so declaring it as a gift would probably not work for an item costing this much. Also this requires the retailer to lie and most reputable dealers are unw...

How do the Aldens perform in wet weather?
Hi. First post and I'd like to start by saying how enjoyable and informative I find this board. I'm thinking of buying a pair of Aldens for general everyday wear but as I live in Scotland, where the climate is fairly damp, I'm wondering how the boots will cope with being wet on a regular basis. Most...
